am 27 weeks and have period type cramps and backache. am going in at 2.30 to day assessment. I'm trying to be calm and logical. don't think it's an infection as passing urine fine. what else could it be (apart from premature labour). what are they likely to do when i get there?

It could still be an infection even if you are passing urine, when I went in to prem labour tho symptoms were not the same as you my waters had broken they checked to see if I was dilating gave me a scan and put me on a monitor, they can also give you something to try and stop the contractions if thats what it is, I also had steroids for the baby's lungs, good luck and let us know how you get on

And blood tests as well

NorthLondonDoulas · 05/07/2011 15:36

It can be quite common as baby can but pressure on bones and internal organs... i always get back ache in my pregnancies. The cramping sensation can be down to many things like ligaments stretching, trapped wind, your bowels etc so please dont panic about it being a premature labour just yet. I would always suggest getting things checked out if symptoms persist or get worse, but sounds like you are already on the ball! I hope all was well when you went today! Give us an update when/if you can.x

thanks for all the reassurance ladies. been checked over, cervix closed so no concerns there. seem to think it's all just tender due to ligaments etc. is very sore though. been prescribed painkillers and told to rest for few days. drink plenty in case it's the start of an uti. feel a bit Daft but it does hurt a lot and at least now i can relay about being in labour. so me and the sky plus box gonna get to know each other better!

I just posted about this on the thread about braxton hicks. I have something called irritable uterus and it gives me period pains and lower back ache. THere is a realyl good website on it if you google it (think it's the first one that comes up, sorry not good with links).

dribbleface · 05/07/2011 17:15

just saw what you said on the other thread. the midwife i saw first off did mention irritable uterus. will have a look. interesting what you said about resting and not lifting. done a lot of that this week so could well be I've overdone it. gonna rest up! thanks

erm i would give them a call back right now this second - do as you are told!!!

NorthLondonDoulas · 06/07/2011 15:06

Your very welcome! You have been given the all clear so it is most probably just braxton hics, here is a tip.....Go for a walk - if they are real comtractions the more you walk the 'tightenings' will intensify and regulate, but if it is braxton hics the more you walk they will disapear. A nice warm bath followed by a tummy massage (using a natural base oil) can help alleviate the discomfort. But of course if you are genuinly worried go to your hospital and pop in to the day assesment unit. Explain what is going on and they will usually attatch you to a fetal monitor for 30mins to an hour so they can monitor the contractions to see if they are the real thing or not. Take it easy and keep in touch.x.x

How did the walk go? How are you feeling today?x

GemsyT · 07/07/2011 17:28

Hey dribbleface,

I had EXACTLY the same thing this week and went to the docs for a check up. I'm 27 weeks and was suffering from groin twinges and shooting pains up my back and she reassured me that it's just ligament pain and nothing to worry about. As long as there's no blood and baby is moving around still, it's all normal, and just annoying.

I had to rest for two days and take paracetamol and now it's eased off a bit. We've only got 12/13 weeks to go, so not long to put up with it!

Hope you're OK xxxx

hi, im 32 weeks with number 3, been getting lots of backache and sometimes period like pains for a few weeks now. theyve eased off a lot now but i was getting quite a few painful braxton hicks, often after bending down (not the best when u keep dropping things). as far as im aware all is well, and baby hasnt made an appearance yet. i think its cuz ligaments etc r softer 2nd + time around (something they dont warn u about :-) )
how was your appointment?

dribbleface · 08/07/2011 07:41

Hi all. thanks for the messages. I'm lot's better today and last night. all seems to have settled down. tummy no longer tender to touch and only real pain is when bending down (snap!). planning on having another quiet day today and hopefully will be fine for DS's birthday Sunday! 3 years old, not sure where that time went. Really appreciated the reassurance ladies, was bit scared for a while but have My rational head back on now!

Hi im new to this have read loads but never posted....
So I'm 32+5 weeks and yesterday I was Getting really bad period like cramps in my groin and lower back and through my hips and bum,and they were about 10mins apart that lasted from 2pm until about 5ish then they started to settle. The pains were so bad that I couldn't get comfy in any position and made me pant. Later on I noticed some spotting but I went to bed as I was shattered and I managed to fall asleep....
Now again this morning I've had a tiny bit of spotting and pains are slowly creeping in again and I keep feeling that I'm leaking, what do I do because everytime I go to the hospital they say everything is fine??i mean could this be pre labour??
