28+4 possible exposure to chicken pox.

My DD started with a couple of spots yesterday which I thought might be bites, but today there are more and they are looking like chicken pox but not confirmed yet.
I know there is nothing I can do about it now or could have done but just wondered what the risks are for me and baby.

My mum is 95% certain I have NOT had chickenpox so not sure I am immune to it.

You need to phone your mw or gp!

I don't know the risks for you, but I do know that you can have a blood test done to check your immunity.

Best to get some proper advice.

Oh I am awaiting nurse ringing me back, they have a triage system at my GP's. Was in a bit of a panic and didn't fancy googles help.

I think at 28 weeks plus the baby is reasonably 'safe'.

Oh, and stock up on calamine lotion, piriton, calpol and lost of distraction tools ( sticker books, pens, new toys etc)

Thank you still waiting for nurse, think they might be busy today. Midwife is there but she is about to finish so receptionist thinks nurse will be better as she can sort out appointment with GP if needed and also do blood samples.

Hi same happened to me a few weeks back. I was sent for an urgent immunity blood test to confirm one way or the other whether I was immune or not. Turns out that I was immune (same as you, Mum was 99% sure I didn't get CP so I obvioulsy had it without the rash) but If I hadn't been then I believe I would have had treatment of Immunoglobulin injections to decrease chances of catching it and possible anti viral drugs if I started to show the signs. General view from the medical proffesion was that they were taking it very seriously to ensure that the possible small risk of complication was avoided.

Still no reply from nurse.
The more I look at her spots the less I am convinced it is chicken pox now, as she is her normal manic self and they aren't itching. I am wondering if they are bites as she has been out lots due to the weather.

No advice re you catching it but once the spots come out don't they feel better anyway? Was she cranky off colour for a few days before?

She was lethargic and whinny over a week ago adn so was DS but he hasn't got any spots.

I wouldn't panic. 28 weeks is probably the least worse stage. Just do look after yourself, and if you do get it keep your temperature down.
However I would want to get clear instructions as to what you should do if: you do get it and start to feel very ill, especially short of breath. As your doctors doesn't seem very good at giving a fast response.

If she does have it they will probably want you to have a blood test, which will also show if you do have immunity to it.

Still not heard back from them adn they are shut for lunch now. Might get a call once lunch is over.
They usually are very very good, maybe I have been lost in the system. From what I have read 28+ weeks is not the worst time to get it for the baby which has made me feel better.
Still not sure if it is or not with DD as DS was also not himself almost 2 weeks ago and he hasn't got spots. Maybe fingers crossed it is just a coincidence and the spots are insect bites due to weather.

Nurse rang and is sounds like it is chicken pox. Told me it isn't an issue later in pregnancy and ring if I get spots.
However GP has just rung me and said nurse has sppoken to her and was unclear of what the risks were. GP is ringing hospital to see (change that to rang she has just been on the phone again) they still have booking in blood and they do, so they are testing now results will be in tomorrow afternoon and she will ring me with results at about 4pm if immune then all is fine, if not I need to have immunogloblin (sp?) but ball is rolling now so think I will relax and try not to worry.

Don't worry I had it in pregnancy with no problems, their biggest concern was I didn't get too high a temperature as that can bring on labour. So phone DP to bring home: calamine lotion, Bicarbonate of soda (several tubs), calpol for kids, paracetemol for you, fever strips (and food).
