i had a private room for 5 days with dd after my c section and it was lovely. i am hoping for the same again even though i know i probably wont get it. i am just wondering if anyone has paid for their room . it is just in a nhs hospital so i am wondering how much it would be.

thanks very much

in the hospital i was at i think it was something like £60 for a room, or £80 if you wanted it en suite
per night

bagpussmice · 23/11/2005 20:24

from memory mine was about 30 per night - that was 2 years ago in NHS hospital in Berkshire

WigWamBam · 23/11/2005 20:25

Same at my hospital - it was £60, but there was no guarantee that you'd get one even if you wanted to pay, as c-section patients were given priority and you could only pay for the room if there was no-one who needed it more than you.

Gobbledigook · 23/11/2005 20:33

I did with ds1 - stayed in 3 nights I think and it was about £120 I think - 4.5 yrs ago now!

KBearthePolarBear · 23/11/2005 20:34

£80 a night - money well spent !

hunkermunker · 23/11/2005 20:34

I am going to if I have to stay when this one's born (which, if it doesn't turn from being breech is looking likely!) - there's no way I'm going on the ward again. Think the dr foster website has figures - hang on, will check.

PruniStuffing · 23/11/2005 20:36

ooh I paid, no way I was going on the ward - wanted peace

starlover · 23/11/2005 20:37

really? i liked being on the ward!

moondog · 23/11/2005 20:38

Yes-twice.
They forgot to charge me the fisrt time.Second time (16 mths ago) it was £50 a night.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 23/11/2005 20:39

No privates available, so got the one with just toilet and wash baisin. Can't remember how much it cost (we had disposable then )

But those of you, who know my story, will know I was in for 14 nights. Was quite prepared to pay, for the privacy, but the hospital bursar said, no way, if you had been admitted, we would have to have found you a public bed, aren't you lucky it was semi private.

Holymoly321 · 23/11/2005 20:41

After two nights on the ward I paid for a private room - it was £35 and the best money ever spent! Having your own space, own window and own bathroom was bliss!!!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 23/11/2005 20:43

Semi meaning no bath or shower, but still no sharing.

marthamoo · 23/11/2005 20:43

Yes, 4 years ago with ds2 - I stayed in for 3 nights and it was £35 a night. Worth every penny. Like wwb, they couldn't guarantee a private room - priority went to woman who'd had C sections etc.

I hated being on a ward with ds1 - I'm antisocial at the best of times, let alone when I'm feeling (and looking) like sh*t on a stick I was in for 8 days with ds1 and I'm sure the lack of sleep (some women can really snore, can't they?) and lack of privacy contributed to my PND. And my private room had its own toilet, which in itself was worth the money - more privacy for that agonising first poo!

Marina · 23/11/2005 20:46

Yes, with ds, and we got our bill spiked after my c-section wound ruptured on day four and I ended up staying in for 11 days . I do NOT recommend this course of action to anyone, however desperate you are for privacy.

hunkermunker · 23/11/2005 21:33

No, doesn't have figures, just that amenity rooms are available. It's a good site though

nope - but I would have BUT i was given one as dd1 was a c-section and then rushed to intensive care so I was given a private room. Our hospital ( 2002) it was 70 quid a night BUT mothers who had children in SCBU/ICU were priority followed by those who had c-sections and then down the line iyswim

acnebride · 23/11/2005 23:22

didn't but wish i had. in the jr in oxford it's i think 45 for an amenity room but you can also pay 336 a night to book a private room with bathroom for certain. i've already told dh that if we do manage to have another one we're paying for two nights there even if we subsequently go bankrupt. the ward i was on was very nice with only 2 other mums but i still got zero minutes of sleep and wanted to claw my way out by the end.

TuttiFrutti · 24/11/2005 14:03

£110 per night but worth every penny!

CountessDracula · 24/11/2005 14:05

bloody hell don't go to the Chelsea and Westminster, they are £650 per night! And they are all booked up you never get one.
