Negative test with ectopic pregnancy?

Hello

I have been on here twice recently first worried I was pregnant then got my period but still felt pregnant and tested which was negative so to tried to put it out of my head. I am not trying for a baby so not symptom spotting or wishing it which I use to do and totally convince myself.

Anyway my period came late on 17th of this month, it was unusually light and watery. I tested a week later because I just felt odd, that familiar strange taste in mouth, dizzy, hungry, no pmt etc. Test was neg so I tried to put it out of my head and thought I just must be unwell.

Since yesterday I am getting stabbing pains on my lower right side, lower back pain, loose stools accompanied with the other pregnancy symptoms above. I just tested again with my 2nd cheap asda test and neg?

I am worried because I have a few symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy but surely a test would be positive?

If I was I would be 6 weeks pregnant today.

I'm thinking of going to my gp tomorrow but bit embarassed as I have done two neg tests, he will be like... "why are you here?"

But you know when you feel something is not right, I do not normally go around feeling like this, I was surprised to suddenly have back pain and these sharp pains in my lower abs have come from nowhere but they are not present all the time.

This is a strange month for me. I could not talk about this to anyone so mumsnets has really helped me lately.

i am sorry to say but your gp's advice is crappy, she cannot rule out an ectopic pregnancy by doing an external abdominal exam. she should send you for an ultrasound to establish what is going on in there. you don't have a positive test, and you think you might have been pregnant for a while now, it would be really really unusual for this not to trigger a positive test, but it has happened. if it is an ectopic, it could be attached to somewhere with a poor blood supply and so the hormones will not be increasing normally. like i say, it's unlikely, but your GP is not in a position to rule anything out.

oh yes, the 8-10 weeks thing is shit. from what i observed on the EPT boards for two miserable years, more like 6,7, possibly even 8 weeks.

Imnotaslimjim · 30/06/2011 19:46

so sorry you're going through this OP, and what a shitter, getting told to just wait. You must be going bonkers!

One question for you, do you have any sort of shoulder pain? Or in the higher part of your back. If you have, get to A&E as soon as, as you will need checking over

canibe · 30/06/2011 20:52

no shoulder pain, if that comes i will be straight to a&e! i did have lower back pain on the weekend but thats gone now.

that's good. thing is, the chances are that the GP is right, like 99-1, but we all know of occasions where the person was the 1...

Hi Canibe,

Just wondered how you were getting along. Have you tested again? Hope you are ok Smile

MoofyMoo · 24/07/2011 18:23

Hi, just wondering how you got on I have same symptoms apart from my last period was 22nd June, negative tests, but have "felt" pregnant and had bloating and abdominal pains aswell as loose stools since 12th July, also got mirena coil fitted. Spoke to nurse Friday who didnt seem too concerned if testing negative but booked me with doctor tomorrow morning. Something is definately not right?!

MoofyMoo · 29/07/2011 20:40

Hi, just to let you know for those who are worrying about these types of symptoms, I went to the Monday and they advised that I have ovarian cysts - nearly all same symptoms of ectopic but negative tests. It was worth getting checked out though to be on the safe side! x

Glad all is ok. As an ectopic pg veteran, I am completely amazed at the appallingly bad advice some medical professionals dish out about ectopics. My local EPU used to be brilliant, but since a change of director now will not do 'reassurance' scans before 8 weeks even for patients with a history of ectopic pg as (and I'm quoting the nurse) 'there'll be nothing to see before then'. Never mind that I was rushed into emergency surgery at just over 6 weeks pg... Astonishing.

Primafacie · 30/07/2011 10:52

Libellule that is beyond shite! I had a ruptured ectopic and lost my tube, when I was next pregnant I had very close monitoring from 6 weeks with regular scans to rule out another ectopic.
