Cervical Erosion???

Hi, just wondering if anyone else has cervical erosion and how its effecting your pregnancy?

I had brown discharge at 19 weeks, then blood spotting at 20 weeks, had an internal examination and was told i have cervical erosion and its nothing to worry about.
I continued with brown discharge for about a week then it stopped, I am 23 weeks tomorrow and have had 2 seperate days of spotting since then but not much.

It still worries me as I did not have this with ds and i had a mmc last august so just very nervous and worried this time.

I am meant to be flying to Ireland from england in 2 weeks time to see my family, the midwife said its safe for me to fly but i am still extremely worried that something could happen......
So did anyone fly with cervical erosion during pregnancy and was everything ok?

I am probably being silly but i keep thinking my cervix is eroding away and its going to all break away and i will loose my baby....Blush

Can anyone give me any advise/share their experience.

Sorry for really long post!!!

I have this and because the erosion is on the outside bit rather than the baby-side of the cervix, the bleeding doesn't affect the baby. You have more blood when pg which aggrivates it and so you bleed.

It's pretty common and I know mine was caused by dd1's birth but lots of things can cause it. I'm now 27w pg with twins and bleeding has stopped. My gp said we could have sex but it might be a little bloody but as I'm rhesus neg I don't fancy popping in regularly for anti-d injections just because we had sex! Dh is looking forward to next Wednesday as I'm having the routine anti-d on thursday so he's on a promise! ;-)

Hi there
Firstly, to put your mind at rest, the term cervical erosion is a bit of a misnomer... It doesn't actually mean your cervix is wearing away or anything. The other name for it is ectropion cervix and it's apparently very common in ladies who've been on the pill for years. It's when the cells that normally grow inside the cervix extend to the outside, and as they are a different type of cell they are more sensitive and bleed more easily. So, when pregnant, the changes in the cervix, along with things like sex or a big poo (!) - or just nothing at all - can set off some spotting. When not pregnant it commonly causes more discharge than normal - and you might have loads of it in pregnancy.
I've got an ectropion and have had spotting at 7wks, 19wks, and 21wks so far. I've had the same reaction the last time I went to MAU in that it's the ectropion causing it and not to worry - easier said than done!
I haven't flown while pregnant (if only - I'd love a holiday) but can't imagine it would affect this?
Oh, and I'm 29+4 now :)

Basically everything Misty said. I had repeated bleeds when I was pregnant with DS due to cervical "erosion" and the name really is the most worrying thing about it. The erosion is simply a patch of cells that is easily irritated. When irritated or put under pressure it bleeds.

It won't affect your pregnancy at all.

What everyone above has said sums it up really.

I too have "cervical ectropian" aka cervical erosion which caused spotting and brown discharge at several points through my 1st PG and after sex during this PG. I was on the Pill for YEARS and apparently this is very common but only discovered if you have any spotting really since they tend to avoid internals while ur PG (afaik).

I have this! Just wanted to jump on the cervical erosion bandwagon because I had is diagnosed about 8 weeks ago haven't seen anything about it on here! I was very reassured after midwife visit when noticed brown discharge, and as far as I'm concerned now its nothing to worry about! Havent really even noticed it for a while now either, it seems to have settled down!

pregnantmimi · 26/06/2011 23:27

ooooooo wonder if thats what i have had bleeding 5 weeks, 11 and 13 had no anwers to why and its stressing me out had 3 emergency scans and not had any answers to why its happening.

Littlepic · 27/06/2011 11:35

Interesting!!!

I've also had bleeds at 5, 8 and 12 weeks. All scans ok and no reason given for the bleeding. Perhaps this is also why I've had problems.

lovemybabyboy · 30/06/2011 09:36

Just wondering how often is normal to be having spotting???

Im 23+5 now and since i was diagnosed at 20 weeks i have been having brown discharge/red and pink spotting every day or every other day. sometimes it lasts for maybe 2 days then is gone for a few days then will come back. Its never enough to go on a pad its just when i wipe and not a huge amount.

Does anyone know if this is normal??? I am still so worried...everytime i see it i think im losing the baby! :(
baby is still moving and heartbeat is fine with my angelsounds fetal doppler.

Thank you for all your advise so far...its reassuring to know im not the only one! xxx

Hi I know this is an old thread but how did your pregnancy go? I'm having same thing at 23 weeks brown discharge spotting on and off been told erosion. Just so annoying and making me nervous wreck!! X

Springforward · 08/02/2013 21:01

I had this with DS, it didn't cause him any problems and only a little bleeding for me. It's also caused a bit of spotting this time too, but we both seem to be well otherwise and hospital don't seem concerned.

chickabilla · 09/02/2013 09:07

I had quite a big bleed for one day at 11 weeks then it started again lightly at 14 weeks and I was told cervical ectropian then and that it wouldn't affect the baby. It got worse at 18 weeks but baby was fine then stopped by 20 weeks. I have been convinced I would lose this baby, blood is so scary in pregnancy, but I am now 34 weeks and have had nothing since. This is DC3 and I had no bleeding at all with the other 2.
