And there were bits in it Blush

now I've never really taken much notice but there did seem quite a lot, not hard bits but almost like the middle of a marbel. Should I be concerned? Is it a sign of anything?

Tia

I've had this before, but was never told there was a problem.

Also, if it was it a new container that the midwife gave you, sometimes there is a preservative in the container which is like little crystals. I had to do a complete 24 hour urine collection into a 5 litre bottle (or tanker perhaps?) recently and there was loads of the preservative and it did look weird (and the whole thing was a bit gross really!!!).

hobbgoblin · 23/06/2011 10:50

It's vaginal secretions innit?

LoveBeingAbleToNamechange · 23/06/2011 11:01

Well I can't aim into the sample container so have to collect it in something else and that's where I noticed it.

Hobbgoblin - but you don't wee out of there Confused

I wouldn't because if it affects the results then it has done that for a reason i.e. UTI. If it doesn't then it isn't an issue, your midwife will be used to it.

msbuggywinkle · 23/06/2011 11:29

I've been told to wipe with a wet flannel before doing a sample to make sure vaginal discharge doesn't get in there as it can cause protein to show up when there isn't actual protein in our urine.

Catsycat · 23/06/2011 11:33

I was really surprised how often they expect you to use the same container. I had the same one all the way through my first pregnancy, and three quarters of the way through the second. They only gave me a new one when the old one started throwing protein readings out!!! I did wash it in between uses btw, but obviously not a medical sterilisation type thing. Isn't it lovely the things we have to do???

What msbuggywinkle said

nunnie · 23/06/2011 11:35

I was suprised by that too with my last pregnancy Catsycat, but this one I have to have 4 weekly lab tests, so get a fresh pot each visit.

nunnie · 23/06/2011 11:36

Learn something new, I ahve never been told about the wipe before thing.

nannyl · 23/06/2011 12:20

i get a fresh bottle thing each time, but never notice bits floating in it.

last time i had to have a green lid (poo sample) pot as they has run out of white urine ones!

I know I 'nicked' a few spares when left alone near a full box at hospital a few months ago!

I recently noticed "bits" in mine, and results came back that I had a UTI. Obviously I dont know if the two are connected, but just wanted to reassure you that a UTI is not the end of the world - I had no symptoms, was given antibiotics for 7 days and told that as long as its treated promplty a UTI is not great cause for concern.

I would submit the sample with bits in, in case its important.

LoveBeingAbleToNamechange · 23/06/2011 15:43

Cheers mummy!

We'll see what comes back.
