Should I be worried?

I am 17+5. I had a bit of a red bleed 2 weeks ago, got it all checked out and everything was fine (they couldn't see where it was coming from and the placenta looked fine). I am still having some brown discharge (i.e. no where near enough to fill a pad), but last night and today its been a clotty brown discharge. I think its just some thicker discharge coming out (sorry for TMI), and not tissue. I am having some aches but they are very low so I am attributing them to stretching. No contraction like pains and no cramps. I see my consultant Tues. Should I be worrying and phoning him before this?

I would probably go to the maternity unit and get checked out if I were you.

banana87 · 19/06/2011 21:06

I don't think maternity unit would see me as I am private patient...I think I need to go thru my consultant, but I feel bad phoning on a Sunday night for something so small. It's not brown bleeding, its very very light discharge...

asaik if it is brown, it isn't fresh blood. but just to be on the safe side, I would get it checked over now rather than waiting.

Are you sure the maternity unit wouldn't see you? Did you ring your consultant? Hope all turns out ok.

No, I didn't ring him because its such a small amount. I will ring him today.

Banana, I was told that after a red bleed I should expect to see some dicloloured/brown discharge for at least 2 weeks. Which I did. So it's likely perfectly normal. I would check with your cons thouh, just to be sure.

Thanks Wombat. It's nice to hear someone else has been thru the same. I just spoke to my consultant, he said not to worry and he is bringing my 20 week scan forward to next week to check the placenta. It's the clots that scare me most.

How are you doing today Banana?

banana87 · 21/06/2011 22:58

I'm still spotting, but I went for a scan at the Fetal Medicene Centre and they saw a very small pocket of blood in the placenta which is the cause. She said it is not a threat to the pregnancy and my body should absorb it. Thanks for asking :)
