A new thread needed here already! Lovely Grumblin who started the second one, may be actually having that baby at this minute!

I hope this will be a source of support for present sufferers and ex sufferers alike and also worried family members.

I want particularly to mention my favourite feline FluffyWhiteKittens, who has been so invaluable a source of support on the old threads, and MOH, who has slaved to produce articles full of useful information and links to useful websites, LaTrucha, lovely CaramelloKoalaLover, Grumblin, NitNat, La, Lottie, Grandmagain, MaryLou, Cocoanuts and so many that I cannot name everyone for fear that the current sufferer may became annoyed at the long list...

Never worry about tmi or moaning. When suffering one has to discuss things that would make most people go weak at the knees and to have a good moan can help enormously with an illness where there is still a lot of ignorance and sometimes insensitive treatment.

It might help to remember - when you are at your worst - the words in that Eastern story.
'This Too Shall Pass.'

babycarmen no it's not dramatic, i remember the feeling of helplessness and despair, not knowing whether I would get meds or whether they would work. If the cyclizine is working for you, then things should improve. I never took it myself but from what I gather, it's grim to start with, what with all the dizzyness but that improves. In the meantime, try to do as little as you can and seek help from wherever you can - do you have a relative or friend who could come up and stay with you? i know you probably don't want to make a fuss but there are times when you just need help and thats what friend/relations are for.

What part of Scotland are you in? There's now a lady who's team leader for Scotland in the UK support network, she's based in Dundee, but she'll give phone/email support wherever you are. If you want to be put in touch with her, private message me or send a request for support on the website www.pregnancysicknesssos.co.uk. Also, do you know that you can get ketosticks from the chemist and test yourself for high ketones? If they're high and you're worried about it, you can go to A&E.

babycarmen · 08/08/2011 13:10

Ive made an appointment with my GP for 3.50. Probably nothing they can do but i feel so ill im running out of ideas. Will let you all know how i get on. Im glad this thread is here!

MOH100 · 08/08/2011 14:34

babycarmen if your GP is not confident to try you with other drugs if the cyclizine doesn't work, then ask for a referral to an obstetrician. There are a lot of other medications you can try but most GPs are afraid of prescribing them - not because they're unsafe, but because they don't have enough experience to figure out which ones can be given. An obstetrician is more likely to have the specialist knowledge needed to manage a patient with HG. If you look at the website www.pregnancysicknesssos.co.uk under 'Treatments' there is more information and some advice about what to do if your GP wont treat you. This also applies if the GP has run out of ideas, there are things that can be done, you shouldn't just be left to manage on your own.

babycarmen · 08/08/2011 16:59

Ive been prescribed Prochlorperazine. GP only checked blood pressure and said that was ok. My head is thumping ive been crying non stop. DP cant be here today/tonight so im by myself. Came home and threw up but only bile came up because ive not eaten. :(

fluffywhitekittens · 08/08/2011 19:27

Oh babycarmen I do feel for you. Your dd is a very similar age to mine when I was going through this last year. DVDs/ videos / cbeebies will be your best friend. Don't feel guilty, I used to lie on the sofa and try and have a nap while she was watching.
I know it doesn't give any practical help but it is normal to feel v depressed and down with this condition. Things will slowly get better. Is there any possibility of getting a relative to come and stay for a while or send dd on Holiday with for a while if you explain how bad things are?
If you do have to be admitted to hospital is there anyone to have dd?

grandmaagain · 09/08/2011 09:35

wont steal their pride I"ll let them tell you all BUT I"M VERY EXCITED!!!!
love to all x

LucindaE · 09/08/2011 09:36

Sorry for absence, away for the day. BabyCarmen Really sorry to hear how you are going through it - you are in a difficult situation, no relatives to hand, very lively daughter (I was put off trying for it again by how mine didn't sleep much and had to be taken out for long walks, etc all the time like a big dog!). Thank goodness you have more meds. Never worry about tmi here, there's no such thing - can't be on a thread like this! Cloudy urine sounds a bit of a warning, particularly if its dark (like builder's tea, I remember thinking, Grumblin noted that too ) - did you get the kesosticks?
Sorry about bad head, that unfortunately does sound like a possible dehydration headche - really sorry but you may not be able to avoid a trip to hospital. I know its torture, I dread suggesting it but it has to be done - do keep sipping away at sips of water, sucking ice cubes or ice lollies, sipping at coke, I hate to say 'have you tried' but it does make a difference, though you think its all coming back up, some gets through and helps the headaches.
Fluffy MOH Coconuts great advice.
Pearl Sorry about relapse.
NitNat She is adorable. don't understand about tongue thing?

Thanks everyone for the constant support! Im doing better today so far. Feel painfully hungry and thirsty so trying my best, ice poles, fruit tea and hot choc are helping! Yesterday was awful i think the main reason i was sick was because i got myself in such a state. Didnt get kesosticks - totally forgot!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 09/08/2011 11:58

Glad you're feeling slight;y better today Carmen. Crying just exacerbates the situation doesn't it, what with the headaches, but sometimes you just can't help it.

Hot choc was a godsend for me. I made it quite weak so it was still choc flavoured but at least I knew it was quite watery so more hydrating for me. After the hour in bed in the morn I would always have a hot choc and a banana. It sort of became a ritual. Really hope you can avoid admission :)

lucinda Hope you are well :)

lilyrose123 · 09/08/2011 12:08

sorry for no posts been on the camping trip for 2 weeks no signal or internet!
was very relaxing actually lay down A LOT!
Hi to all the new people that have joined in last two weeks!
sorry for anyone feeling crap :(
and congrats to those that have had babies..... I think Lilian Rose is a gorgeous name Wink
baby Carmen I am on that prochlorperazine, i find it works for a me
just got another prescription much to my gruntled GPs objection, but it has been advised by Obs and Gynae at the hospital :)
I have stopped losing weight, and managed to drink more, (survived on crackerbreads and lemonade) but whether that was due to no work/housework/lots family to watch DD whilst I lie down
we shall see now that i'm back to reality LOL

sadalot · 09/08/2011 13:34

last year at this time i have severe hg for which i had to be hosptilised 3 times - i would not wish hg on my worst enemies and i have a few to name - this condition changes your personality and your self - esteem. i lost three stone in weight as well

MOH100 · 09/08/2011 13:54

babycarmen just to let you know, incase you can't keep the meds down, there is a version of prochloperazine which dissolves under your top lip, it's called buccastem. I got prochlorperazine (brand name stemetil) but I just kept throwing it up, so I got buccastem instead. It worked quite quickly and I was able to eat and drink again within a day or two of starting it. Another bit of advice, don't pussyfoot around with trying small doses to start with, just go straight in with the maximum dose, then experiment with reducing it once things have settled down. I wish I'd done that, it would have saved a load of puking.

MOH100 · 09/08/2011 14:08

There's a new facebook group for partners of HG sufferers www.facebook.com/groups/232609180114647/

lilyrose123 · 09/08/2011 14:47

baby carmen and MOH100
I agree I couldnt keep the stemetil down and had buccastem, it meant i couldnt throw it up, and was in system quickly as absorbed through gums, i am mainly using tablets now that things seem to be a bit more under control, bt when things are bad, I go back to the buccastem, or if bad when i wake up i put one under my lip and stay in bed for half hour while it gets to work

fluffywhitekittens · 09/08/2011 16:59

I couldn't face the buccastem as the taste was just bah, first time round I had suppositories Blush which were good as obviously couldn't throw them straight up :) but when I asked second time round they were no longer available for some reason.

WHERE ARE LUCE OR JONNY?!

Drums fingers impatiently after Grandma's post......
Fluffs a few pink cushions.....

babycarmen · 09/08/2011 18:15

MOH it is the buccastem version i was given! :) Havent tried it yet, waiting to finish cyclizine but im a bit wary the taste will make me feel ill?

Been starving hungry today so have eaten a good amount, although being careful not to get to the FULL stage as that can make me feel sick. Not been sick today so keeping everything down which is great! Went a little walk but got really dizzy.

Coconuts the hot chocolate has to be weak for me too, much prefer it that way, DP thinks its grose!

ElliottsMummy · 09/08/2011 18:37

babycarmen sorry you are feeling so rotten but I'd recommend the Buccasetem - it was the turning point for me and helped me get more fluids in and avoid being admitted to hospital. There is a strange metallic taste sometimes but if you get it in a good position and don't let it move around it works great. I started taking 2 a day then cut down to just 1. Hope it works for you xx

grandmaagain you can't do that to us, it's mean!!! :)

Was feeling good today and really fancied a milkshake - bad idea! Milk is still not my friend :( hope everyone else is feeling ok x

nitnatnaboo · 09/08/2011 19:18

Lucinda she had a tongue tie - there was a piece of tissue connecting the tip of her tongue to the bottom of her mouth. She couldnt stick her tongue out so it was interfering with breastfeeding. She has also been back to hospital today as she still has jaundice. They had to get 4 vials of blood out of her heel so she screamed the place down. Then muggins here had to hold a cup under her until she weed so they could test her urine. Got one lot quite quickly but then she poo'ed very loudly and suddenly and in my shock I knocked the sample bottle over. It took about 2 hours to get the sample! Was there for 6 hours, came home with both of us covered in milk, puke, blood, wee and poo! To cap it all, while she was there, they found a heart murmur so we have to go back tomorrow for an ECG. AAAAAGH!

MOH100 · 09/08/2011 19:26

babycarmen I agree with elliotsmummy, stick the buccastem as far up under your top lip as you can and hold it in position if need be with your finger, don't be tempted to let your tongue anywhere near it. It tastes bitter, but if you keep it isolated you can avoid tasting it too much.

La73 · 09/08/2011 19:28

Just a quick post one handed!

Carmen so sorry you feel so down, know it doesnt help much but it is natural to feel depressed and all of us can attest to dark thoughts when HG at its peak - it truly is the pits. Keep in touch, found having outlet for a moan truly a godsend and Lucinda an angel

Luce have cream tea ready, can't wait to hear all about it x

La73 · 09/08/2011 19:32

Nitnat just seen post, what a crappy day for you. Hope Matilda ok, poor thing (gawd how I hate heel pricks, I cry as much as bubas) x

fluffywhitekittens · 09/08/2011 19:38

Nitnat, I remember having to get pee samples from dd, she was jaundiced too and had to have lots of blood tests :(
Fingers crossed everything is ok tomorrow.

LucindaE · 09/08/2011 20:01

NitNat How traumatic, poor you and poor baby, mine had jaundice after forceps delivery and they did that slashing stuff - very upsetting. Cyber hugs to you. Sad Try not to worry to much about heart murmur - a friend of mine has one, and it's never caused any trouble, so perhaps its fairly frequent? What an awful day for you. Things like this should not happen in the pink castle. Lol about drawbridge and Luce and Johnny.
La Thank you for compliment, OH and DD would not agree about my temperment...
Carmen An improvement, this is good. Eating? Great...
LilyRose Welcome back. Very brave to go camping, with the general shortage of loos...Glad you have been doing reasonably well, but that diet does not sound fun at all...
Fluffy Me too, about Grandma's post...
Moh More good news on support front!
Sadalot Three stone???!!! I wish I had known you to symapthise at least...
ElliottsMum How are you today?
Bet I have rudely overlooked someone...
Feekerry How are things?

I would really like to tell you all but I feel it is not my right to. they have been very good about not minding me being on the same site as them and for that I have tried not to invade their privacy.without giving too much away may I visit the pink castle and see you all? I would like to give everyone of you a huge hug for all the support you have given us I think I would have gone mad with worry had I not been able to read all about the positive outcomes of this terrible condition and lucinda"s "this to will pass" cos I never belived it would!! thank you all and good luck to all those now on the list Wine lots of for all who can and Brew fo all the rest. Smile no that should be Grin

MOH100 · 09/08/2011 20:59

nitnat my dd had prolonged jaundice screening so we had to turn up for baby torture every fortnight for a couple of months - heel pricks didn't get enough blood so they actually stuck a needle in the vein in her foot, she was 6 weeks prem so she was tiny, not even 5lbs so the needle was as big as the blood vessel. I don't know which one of us who cried more. They ended up referring us to a paed endocronologist who looked at the results and said, yeh they would get concerned about this level of x (can't remember now what hormone it was) in the baby clinic but as far as we're concerned it's nothing to worry about!!! Great. I could have gone back to that baby clinic and stuck a needle right up the doctors . I'm familiar with the waiting for pee scenario too - usually she could be relied on to pee everywhere as soon as her nappy was off, except when you were there waiting to collect it.

grandma of course you can visit the pink castle, have some pink champagne and a bit of pink fairy cake. Wine. Well done for making it through, watching it's not much more fun than having it.
