A new thread needed here already! Lovely Grumblin who started the second one, may be actually having that baby at this minute!

I hope this will be a source of support for present sufferers and ex sufferers alike and also worried family members.

I want particularly to mention my favourite feline FluffyWhiteKittens, who has been so invaluable a source of support on the old threads, and MOH, who has slaved to produce articles full of useful information and links to useful websites, LaTrucha, lovely CaramelloKoalaLover, Grumblin, NitNat, La, Lottie, Grandmagain, MaryLou, Cocoanuts and so many that I cannot name everyone for fear that the current sufferer may became annoyed at the long list...

Never worry about tmi or moaning. When suffering one has to discuss things that would make most people go weak at the knees and to have a good moan can help enormously with an illness where there is still a lot of ignorance and sometimes insensitive treatment.

It might help to remember - when you are at your worst - the words in that Eastern story.

however, i have discovered i can keep hot chocolate down!!! woohoo!

babycarmen · 05/08/2011 20:41

Hi :) Just been shown over here by fluffy!

Im 13 weeks with my second pg and just started taking cyclizine for hyperemesis.
Today is the first day in about a week ive managed to drag myself out of the bathroom and get dressed and even left the house for a while! Im really hoping the sickness goes soon and takes the diziness with it!

fluffywhitekittens · 05/08/2011 21:54

Oh feekerry that sucks :(
Waves at babycarmen, welcome to our lovely group. Nothing is tmi here. I would chat for longer but really must try and get some of that stuff, what's it called? Sleep?!

LucindaE · 06/08/2011 18:04

BabyCarmen Welcome, delighted to meet you, and sorry you've had to join the thread nobody wants to need, it sounds like you have it badly. You know lovely Fluffy already? I do hope the meds work for you and you can see more of life away from the bowl of the loo. I hope as you're coming up to week 13 that they worst of it may have passed. What liquids can you stand to try and swallow?
Feekerry That is awful, I had that sometimes myself, I was puzzled as to how it could happen when dehydrated. I get it now, with migraines, and its so foul having to sit on the loo with your head in a bowl, and makes the dehyration twice as bad. Oh, dear, doesn't sound like the meds are doing a great job Sad but congratulations on being able to drink something...
Fluffy I am so glad you had a good birthday.
Eager to hear from Luce...

Hello - fully expected to come back from hols with a jonny&luce baby story! Ah well, these babies come when only they're ready. Yep Lucinda Seren really dragged her heels too, it was very annoying at the time. Tried ice on nips - it really works! Didn't even hurt that much either.

theonly How you feeling? You sound chipper....

Welcome to newbies nemo, feekerry, babycarmen, mancbird anyone else I've rudely missed. Sorry you are at the start of HG hell but don't look forward. Take each hour as it comes. feekerry HG put me off having children, each time after pg I've been like 'NEVER AGAIN'...have some how ended up with 3 DC's. Each a hyperemesis pg. My MW said I was either mad or stupid, methinks both. She practically got down on her knees and begged me not to go for a 4th baby, I will be listening to her from now on as each one has got progressively worse. I look back to Christmas/January this year and wonder how I survived. How are you now? It's a total nightmare when the meds don't work isn't it, nothing was a miracle cure for me, not even ondansetron.

marylou how are you? I think the medal for the longest pregnancy goes to you, you seem to have been pregnant forever!

nitnat & la How's baby matilda & lilian? The feeding is constant isn't it. I've bought some pyjamas with daisy the cow on as thats how I feel, a constant cow Grin

elliotsmummy Getting there now. It's so strange that no HG in 1st pg, seems crueller than having Hg in every pregnancy as it ust have been a huge shock after having a 'normal' pg last time.

coconuts How hot is it? Thinking of you. HG and heat is not a good combination.

fluffy Waves. How's DS coming along? Is he nearing the 1st birthday stage yet? Is HG becoming a distant memory or are you still traumatised? I keep thinking back to the crappy stage where I was sucking ice lollies when it was -12 outside trying to hydrate. Makes me shudder.

Wow - what an essay! Sorry everyone.

nitnatnaboo · 06/08/2011 23:26

Gosh lots of newbies. Hi to all and really sorry you are going through the worst time. I'm enjoying my 2nd non-pregnant week! Little consollation at you stage I know, but the pregnancy seemed to go very very quickly despite HG, probably because I spent so much of it asleep on Cyclizine! Hope the weather has cooled down a bit and made things a little easier for you today. Breastfeeding has been a lot less sticky today!feekerry I had days of "both ends" too. Don't know if it was HG or the meds that caused it but it's the last thing you need! Can I recomend peanut butter on white toast as a good proteiny food for when you are able to tolerate actual food.....

Can't remember who asked about HG putting you off having more LO's but for me HG was worse this time round and although I'd love another, I couldnt put the family through it again. I was lucky that there is a 5 year gap between my two, so no mad toddlers to look after. If I was to have another I would have Matilda to look after as well and it wouldnt be fair on DH who would bear the brunt.

Go Luce go Luce go Luce Grin. Bet Grandmaagain can't wait!

nitnatnaboo · 06/08/2011 23:31

PINK CASTLE NEWS. See profile for pics of Matilda

Hope you are having fun despite the tiredness and getting out and about a bit? Cluster feeding has kind of hampered me a bit so far but hoping that will improve as Matilda had her tongue tie done on Friday so hoping feeding is going to get more efficient (and less painful) and she can go longer between feeds. Apparently it was a thin tie but quite tight so no wonder she was having difficulty getting enough food. She has now put on 1 oz since birth. She is gorgeous. Have just got a Moby wrap and she seems to love it so far!

Hi Lucinda hope you are well. Still doing sterling work here, ably assisted by Fluffy. Lucinda you sound like you're having serious PC issues! I would have thrown mine through the window by now if it kept crashing that much!

fluffywhitekittens · 06/08/2011 23:47

Nitnat, she looks so teeny, tiny :)
Grumbling Josh is 9 1/2 months so starting to vaguely think about birthdays, generally I think you forget the hell but certain things can trigger terrible flashbacks!
Have been to a wedding so baby is spending his first night away :( will be nice to have a good night's sleep hopefully but goodness knows what state my boobs are going to be as he feeds a lot at night...

LucindaE · 07/08/2011 13:45

NitNat Am good and mad with pc, hate it...ushers NItNat Grumblin and Fluffy out to the pink castle battlements to admire the view, you probably have been too busy suckling to notice it...Grumblin That tip does help with most sorts of bruising, I find. You couldn't exactly put arnica on nipples with a nursing baby! So glad it helped the nipple agony. NitNat I will have a look at those, and envy you...Feekery BabyCarmen and all those suffering in first tri, how are you today? Not too [green] in our sense of the green face and Sad I hope?
TheOnly How is the awful asthma? any improvement? Was it you who was had bats in the bedroom? I like them, but I draw the line at that...
I remember Marylou over a year back when I was having yet more pc problems and in the library - no not pregnant, but wondering about did she dare - well, fate took a hand.
How is anyone I have rudely overlooked?

Im so dizzy today i havent even managed to get dressed, im going to try and get a bath soon, basically just feeling poop today :( yesterday was ok, managed to get stuff done but probably over did it!
The cyclizine is def helping with nausea, im dreading coming off it!

LucindaE · 07/08/2011 16:06

Carmen SadFor sure if you do have a good day, there is a tendency to overdo it, and you pay for it on the next day. There is one good thing, though, people tend to find that once they have had one good day, then that is the turning point, and gradually the number of good days starts to exceed the bad... Sympathies and cyber hugs. Chronic dizziness must be awful, and in this hot weather too.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 07/08/2011 16:26

Carmen - the dizziness will pass, for sure. give it time and as Lucinda says, these good days will begin to exceed the bad. Sleep, sleep and more sleep and you'll feel better soon :)

waves to all. Still lurking and keeping up, just don't post much lately. Thankfully I was the lucky one and HG is a distant memory. Back to full on teeth brushing and eating anything and everything! Have put on too much weight since initially losing quite a bit in the early days. Now onto worrying about bag packing, birth plans and varicose veins!

Sorry to see so many newbies but things will improve :)

I seem to be dangerously close to the top of that list. Eek.

diddygirl · 07/08/2011 16:57

Hello all!
Greetings from Mallorca! Sorry to see that more people are suffering - hope you feel better soon.
I nearly posted here last night to brag about how I haven't been sick for about 5 weeks (or poss even more), then this aft I had a full blown vom session. 'twas like old times. I have been weaning myself off the cyclizine and have only been taking 1 tablet a day. This was where I went wrong cos I didn't take one yesterday and lo and behold the vom returned. Just shows how powerful a drug they are. Apart from that I'm feeling like a different person and really enjoying the pregnancy.

Good to hear that people are enjoying the Pink Castle and well deserved too.
Adios for now!

Diddygirl Lovely to hear from you in Mallorca, and so much better, apart from that one nasty setback. Just as well you are generally feeling OK, it must be so hot there...
ElliottsMummy How are things? You are high on the list now, too.
Cheering Luce on.
Carmen How is the dizziness today? Did you say there was some threat of your being taken off meds?

Morning all,
Argh, am feeling very sorry for myself today. After a few days of feeling quite a bit better, I had a horrible marathon vom session last night and have woken up to find that I seem to have burst a whole lot of blood vessels around my eyes. Lots of tiny purple specks all around my eyes! Luckily I mainly work from home as I think I would really scare anyone who saw me out and about!

Diddygirl, so glad to hear you're so much better - that's great. Also good to hear from Pink Castle inhabitants Fluffy, Grumblin and NitNat - gives us all hope. BabyCarmen, surely you won't have to stop taking the cyclizine if you're still bad? I've been on repeat prescriptions since early April. I try to take as few as possible, but on days when I have to work or know I have a lot to get done, I always take all 3 and they do help with the sickness for me.

Glad to hear theonly is also feeling better now - sounds like you went through a really bad patch last week with the asthma and coughing on top of everything else. And Coconuts, I've enjoyed your discussion of the day thread on what to pack for labour/hospital bag - I'd not started thinking about it, but some good ideas there!

Waves to everyone rudely not mentioned and hope everyone has a reasonably good week. I'm going to be 26 weeks on Thursday - frankly I can't believe I've made it this far! :)

babycarmen · 08/08/2011 09:36

My gp only gave me 7 days worth of the cyclizine and said if im still sick il have to into hospital.. They are helping though so im just going to kick and scream to stay on them after the 7 days.
I only took 2 yesterday and today i am so dizzy im almost having a breakdown :( Im home alone with DD today and have so much to do around the house but its going to have to wait! I cant even manage a shower when i feel like this and even having a bath is difficult.

Please someone tell me how to cope with the dizziness :(

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 08/08/2011 10:03

Carmen All you can do is lie still and keep drinking. How old is your DD? And whereabouts are you? If your DD is old enough to understand mummy is poorly perhaps you can have the day in bed with lap games such as match cards, drawing, some stickers, books, portable dvd player/laptop for her to watch movies with you? Things where you don't have to do anything much and you can nap while she plays?

Is there any family at all that can come an take DD for a couple of hours or even the day?

The dizziness is not going to go away in just 7 days unfortunately, usually takes about 10-14 days I found. But the thing with them is that you need to take them regularly as clockwork and you are allowed 3 a day. Take the first before you get up, setting your alarm for an hour before you need to be up. Take the tablet before you get out of bed, stay there for the hour. Then second tablet 6-8 hours later, lay still for the hour once you've taken it and same again for the third. It should lessen the effects slightly.

This is the time where you really need family to help. If you are near me I can help :)

babycarmen · 08/08/2011 10:15

Awh thankyou! Im way up in Scotland now. This is a nightmare if i had this with DD i doubt i would have had another baby :( (well probably would but not for a long time!)
DD is 4 in October and a very active child. Trying to get her to sit still for half an hour is a mission in itself but worth a try!

Gp gave me the prescription over the phone and didnt give me any instructions other then no more then 3 a day and they didnt come with instructions as the chemist just put the right number of pills in a little bottle :( Before food, with food? Does it matter?

Unfortunately my family are miles away and i dont know many people in the area yet!

MotherofPearl · 08/08/2011 10:21

Oh dear babycarmen, sounds like you're in a very difficult situation. Does DD like watching DVDs or TV? I normally feel guilty if I rely on these too much for entertaining my DD, but when ill then I think you need to do as little as possible and if that means DD watching CeeBeeBees/Peppa Pig/Dora all day, then so be it! Could your partner perhaps book a few days off work to help you to get some rest, at least until you're more established on the cyclizine? Not sure about whether it's better to take cyclizine with or without food I'm afraid. Main thing is that even if you can't get any help, you should not be worrying about housework or anything like that - just do the absolute minimum you have to to get you and DD through each day. Good luck.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 08/08/2011 10:24

Ah I wish I was nearer. This is when MOH support network could really come into it's own.

To be frank, she is definitely old enough to be told to sit still. My DD wasn't even three when I was at my worst and I know you shouldn't compare kids etc but if she can sit still and do as she's told then hopefully your DD can too :) Just try explaining in a fun way that mummy is feeling poorly today and that you're going to have a fun day playing on the bed and if she's a good girl..... I find blackmail was my best friend for a few weeks! Perhaps even playdoh at the table where you can still be sat down? If you can stand the smell of course.

No I never took mine with food, as I couldn't eat! So I found the best way of avoiding that first vomming session of the day was to take the first before even moving out of bed, so take them to bed with you with a drink ready for the next morning. That was the single easiest thing that helped. If I could avoid that first vom, the rest of the day seemed to go better.

But yes, just three a day and I worked that out to be every 6-8 hours. I remember staggering back from my GP appt and taking the first one, falling asleep, and actually waking up starving for the first time in nearly two weeks and ate a sandwich and a whole packet of biscuits. Two days later I was in hospital as I found drinking much harder than eating, so try your best to drink. That will also help the dizziness. Have you still got ketones?

Oh and YAY for your GP prescribing over the phone. Mine refused and I had to practically crawl there with DD in tow.

babycarmen · 08/08/2011 10:40

I have no idea if i still have ketones as i havent been tested in a couple of weeks now but id be shocked if i didnt.. and sorry for tmi but my pee is REALLY cloudy(?) dont know if that means anything but its never usually like that!

DD currently has music on in her room and i can here her thumping dancing around. Shes a good girl and she will sit still if i need her to, DP is home at lunchtime today i think..thank god. so i just need to stick it out til then!
I hate sounding dramatic but im scared this is really getting me down and if it lasts much longer i dont know what im going to do :( all i feel like doing is crying and theres nothing i can do about it"

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 08/08/2011 12:45

Aw honey it does get better but I remember days where all I did was cry and sleep in intervals so you're not alone :( It is bloody horrible though. Glad DH is home at lunch, which is prob about now actually, and your DD sounds cute, mine doesn't have her own music to listen to yet but she loves to dance about. Some days having DD was the only reason I got through the day. I HAD to be there to look after her so curling up and dying a slow death wasn't an option Grin

Could you send DH to the chemist to get you some kesostix to check your urine at home?

If it gets worse tomorrow or Weds perhaps you should just rock up at A&E and get yourself hydrated. The hospital stays are awkward but you do come out of them feeling slightly better.
