Signs of labour??

Hi

I'm almost 39 wks pregnant with DC2. You'd think that I'd be able to detect the signs of imminent labour but I think somehow my brain has turned to mush!

Seriously though with DD1 the start of my labour was not particularly 'normal' in that my waters went in the middle of the night with meconium in them. At this point I had felt no pain or discomfort. We were told to come straight to hospital and when I got there I was examined and told that I was 2cm dilated already and that they would have to induce me using syntocin due to the meconium. I hadn't fely a single contraction at this point. Anyway, the rest of the labour was then fairly straightforward despite going from 0-60 with the intensity of the contractions Smile.

So what I'm trying to say is that I've not experienced the 'normal' kind of build up to labour so am looking for people to tell me how they started off. Just interested really!

At the moment, I'm being sick every morning after breakfast and have fairly loose bowel movements (sorry TMI!). I have days when I can almost feel DC2's head burrowing down and days when my bump feels high up again. Plus I've had the odd BH (I think, didn't get them last time) and twinges.

Hope this makes sense? Guess what it boils down to is that I'm getting a tad impatient and want something to happen!! Grin

Thanks Copper. Had another contraction (or BH?) at about 1am hence why I'm sat at my laptop at this time of the morning. Am restless & can't sleep. It was very mild though.

Frustrated!!!

Oooh, very exiting, hopefully, your fast asleep now and has had some rest before it happens! Or, you have baby!!! :)

ipredicttrouble · 24/06/2011 08:44

No baby and nothing happening Sad Sad. I had about 2 contractions during the night but that's about it.

God, I could scream!!

Coppernoddle · 24/06/2011 09:47

Oh, it's so frustrating! Go and do something nice today, the weathers going to be a little better so enjoy it while it's here! Go for lunch somewhere. X x x

KeepOnSwimming · 24/06/2011 09:59

Can I join in? 40+1 today and have been having irregular contractions for a few days - a few during the night were painful and really woke me up, but then since I've got up they've stopped!

So frustrating..

Coppernoddle · 24/06/2011 10:15

Oh, keeponswimming, it's sooooo stressful waiting for it to happen! And I guess telling you to relax and it'll happen is going to make it worse!! But that's the only advise I have to give you I'm afraid!! Well, good luck and hope it happens for you soon!!! Have a good Friday night 'cock and chips' my sister used to call it and hopefully it'll get things moving! Get a good DVD in, load of junk food and curl up on the sofa!! X x x

KeepOnSwimming · 24/06/2011 11:01

Ha! The other half is very hopeful I'll resort to getting jiggy...

.... I might actually be that desperate! Grin

Coppernoddle · 24/06/2011 13:10

Lol!! Have fun!!! Grin

ipredicttrouble · 24/06/2011 15:14

Hi ladies,

'Cock & chips' - so funny! I could be desperate enough to resort to sex tonight. Poor DH!

I'm finding it hard to know what to eat at the minute. Need very bland food as everything else seems to give me wind/indigestion which I start to mistake for contractions. Ridiculous! I'm officially going mad!

Keeponswimming - 40+1 here too with erratic contractions. Haven't had any today but about 4 or 5 yesterday. Kinda glad it's not just me. I was beginning to think that I'd imagined them yesterday.

I just want a proper sign!!!

DD has just gone off with her grandma for a couple of hours so I've got a bit of time to put my feet up, mess around on the net and watch a bit tennis! Smile

Any news today? Are you enjoying the weekend?

KeepOnSwimming · 25/06/2011 19:05

Well I'm still waiting. Pineapple doesn't work!

Coppernoddle · 26/06/2011 09:21

No, it doesn't!!!! Sweeps and sex are really the only thing that I think can strigger it, and not 100% at that neither! It'll happen when you least want it to!

ipredicttrouble · 26/06/2011 19:45

Still waiting & so bloody uncomfortable. Getting a few Braxton Hicks but that's about it. However, my pelvis & hips are aching like mad. If I stay in the position for any amount of time they seize up really badly Sad.

I also have this funny feeling that baby has turned into a funny position. He or she was breech until about 30 weeks then turned head down. At my last MW appt (about 2 wks ago) head was down but I really feel that it's laying across me now.

Any advice anyone? What happens at this stage if this is the case? I'm 40+3.

Anyway, I'm seeing the MW tomorrow so hopefully she'll be able to tell.

Copper I'd love it if the midwife would do a sweep tomorrow but I don't think she will. Think I have to be 41 wks! FFS!

Coppernoddle · 26/06/2011 21:21

Really? I thought once you hit 40 weeks they do one!! Beg!! Get on your knees and cry!, who could resist a weeping pregnant woman in pain!! :)

Baby might be lying back to back. My baby is back to back and is very painful! I've been on all fours to try and turn, not for labour as there c sectioning me early but purley for the pain!
Baby's head might be bobbing in and out of your cervix, don't panic! See what your midwife says tomorrow! You never know, it may happen tonight!!!! Grin

Keep on swimming, how are you getting on? Any news yet?

Well the pair of you, enjoy tomorrow as it's our last day of hot weather! Poo isn't it!! And when it goes shite again, then start again.

Xxxxx

ScarIettOHara · 26/06/2011 22:47

Well it's my due date today and there's no sign of anything happening... My mum says I was 2 weeks late and then induced - hope this isn't the way I'm going to go!

All I've had are a few very mild stomach aches - a bit like period pain - but nothing regular. I know it sounds silly but the longer it goes on the more I get anxious that he will come out ok / healthy. I find myself waiting for every movement and worrying when they don't happen so often.

ipredicttrouble · 27/06/2011 13:10

Well baby is head down and she did do a sweep so that's good. Apparently my cervix is closed but soft. However, nothing is happening at the moment.

I can go for another sweep on Thursday and then I've got my induction booked for next Tuesday.

Trying to be positive but my patience has run out.

Scarlett you're not being silly, I know exactly what you mean. I keep having irrational thoughts that the baby will never come out and that the longer it stays in the more likely it is that something will be wrong with it. Daft, I know but it's the way my mind is working at the moment.

Copper, thanks for all your positive comments! When's your c section booked for?

saoirse86 · 27/06/2011 13:17

As it's a nice day (well it is here anyway, hopefully it is where you are too) why don't you take your DD out to the park or something? After a very long labour it was a walk waddle in the park and then glueing myself to the birthing ball that finally got my DD out. Or if you can't face that, walk around in circles in the garden! Wink

Good luck! Smile

Coppernoddle · 27/06/2011 13:58

Well thats good news that it's soft! Hopefully the sweep will start something off!
There going to admit me to hospital at 37 weeks if I'm not in before that (fingers crossed) and deliver baby at 38 weeks if the little monkey makes it till then! Can't wait to not be pregnant anymore!! Although I'll miss him in my tummy, this pregnancy has been very testing for me and my family!!

The walk sounds like a good idea!! Then again, the heat has now got to me and I'm sitting inside to try and cool off!!

ipredicttrouble · 27/06/2011 21:44

Nothing happening. Have eaten some pineapple & bounced on the old ball this evening. But still nothing...

Copper I hope your little one manages to hang on until 38 wks. My pregnancy has also been rather trying so I do empathise Smile.

Saoirse86 - I'm finding it hard to summon up any energy at the moment but I am trying to be active as much as possible. Pacing round the garden tomorrow is a good idea. Just hope it's not as humid as today.

Coppernoddle · 28/06/2011 19:57

Any news today? Have you given up and just waiting for Tuesday now? Hopefully tomorrows sweep will work! Good luck, and to you scarlettohara.

ipredicttrouble · 28/06/2011 20:59

Kinda of given up. Think I passed a bit more of my 'show' earlier though not really sure and some v strong BH but nothing since. Got my eye on Thursday really when I'm having another sweep.

The only day I really don't want to give birth is Monday as that's my DD's birthday! Sod's law it'll happen then. The thought really upsets me actually. Is that daft?

Any news for anyone else?

OP posts:
Coppernoddle · 29/06/2011 07:39

No that's not daft!! Your emotions of having another and effecting dd are already torn to say the least! That's one thing I found hard after having my second. They were very close together and it really upset me thinking I'd abandoned dd1 while I looked after this other little baby! It lasted about 1 month for me, but you'll be different as there's a bigger gap! But to keep her birthday special, it's perfectly sensible to want it on a different day!
I do hope your sweep goes well today, get them to give it a good yank, no pain no gain! When my midwife did mine with dd2, she's a farmers wife, and she managed to get her finger in and yank it forward! That really got it going straight away!!!
Good luck x x

ipredicttrouble · 29/06/2011 20:23

However, I am going to have to prepare myself for them having the same birthday as it is a real possibility.

ipredicttrouble · 30/06/2011 11:12

Just had sweep, more painful this time. And I'm 3cm dilated!!!
