Cot v cotbed

Our nursery is tiny ... is buying a cot a waste of money or is moving LO into a bed at 2 ok?

Hoping to be able to use cot for DC2 if we're lucky in a few years :)

You can move them into a bed at 2yo, but there might be lots of night-time escaping and messing around. I kept both mine in them until they escaped (3.3 for DS and 2.4 for DD).

We bought a cotbed for DS and he was still in it when DD arrived 2 years later, so we bought her a cot. To be honest I loved the fact neither of them could escape at night for a year or so. DS started climbing out the cotbed at 3.3 so we bought a bed for him and gave DD the cotbed.

That's not very interesting is it!

We found the cot-bed a waste of time/money as we lie down next to DD to help her go to sleep/resettle and there wasn't the space to do it in a cot-bed, so we got her into a proper bed around 2.5.

DC2 on the way and getting a proper cot this time.

IMHO, the multi-purpose baby kit has been a false economy. Wish we'd just gone for stuff that did the job it was built for well, rather than a range of things in a mediocre way!

I agree with MrsBloomingTroll except that we don't have room for a proper bed and so a cotbed is the compromise at the moment.
Re cots and escaping both my other DDs hated theirs' so much that it was a relief to let them have a proper bed and come and find me when they woke up rather than howling in protest till I came to get them. They are 19 months apart and I made the mistake of thinking I would need 2 cots only to find the utter peace which ensued when dd1 moved into a proper bed less than a month after dd2 was born.

We were given our cot (just had to buy a new mattress), so no choice about whether it was a cot or cotbed. However, DC2 is due when DS is 20 months old and we are shortly going to move him into a bed (eek!) at 18 months old. So a cotbed would have been pointless for DS as we need the cot for the next DC. We bought DS's new bed this week and have been building it this morning. Incidentally, he learned to climb out of his cot a few days ago, so it seems like it's good timing!

DD went into a proper bed the week she turned 2. She loved it. She has been sleeping in a cotbed at pil's house but she spreads out and kept waking up, also we weren't confident about our weight in it to read stories. I love sitting next to dd (now 3) and reading her bedtime stories. It also means that dh can sleep in her bed and her in ours when she's ill.

I've just ordered a cotbed as we're having twins so need a second cot and thought the bigger the size the longer we can keep them in together. Other than that I wouldn't bother and would go straight for a bed.

The bed side things didn't fit our bed as the matress we got was so deep so I just put the mattress from the cot on the floor (slightly under the bed) incase dd fell out. I once checked her before bed to find her asleep on the matress on the floor!

We were given our cot bed. Never used it as a bed as moved ds to full size bed at about 19 months. We just got a bed guard for the big bed to stop him rolling out. I wouldn't bother and just get a far cheaper cot

I think a lot depends on your house and the amount of space you have. My dd is in a cotbed and we are pleased with it. The cot bed has advantages when you do night time toilet training. Its easier to get cotbed sheets and duvet into a washing machine than than adult duvet.
