Left lower rib pain

Has anyone else suffered with left lower rib pain?
I'm 20 weeks +4 and from the evening yesterday onwards I have had a feeling of fullness, wriggling, and achey pain at the bottom of my left ribs. My bump is one of those that is growing outwards as well as forwards and is now slightly wider than my rib cage. I have had the odd few mins where this feeling isn't there and about 20mins periods on and off of a pushing/fullness/wrigling sensation.
Please tell me it's not just me and it isn't something weird going on. Confused

Has no-one had this or got any idea what it could be? I still have it and am worried now!

I had this, it drove me crazy later on! MW said it was possibly a trapped nerve, not helped by that fact that DS was wedging his feet under my ribcage.. only thing that helped it was lying down.

Sorry, not very helpful.. if you're worried get thee to the MW and ask her in case it's something else

Don't be worried, its where your bump is spreading, and it will put pressure on your rib cage. Think about how big the baby is going to get, it'll all spread and put pressure underneath your ribs.

Thank you for the responses. I feel a lot less worried now. Will just see how I go before contacting the midwife Smile

Has anyone heard of left lower rib pain being a symptom for pancreas problems?

nope, had it in both my pgs - just one of those pregnancy niggles.

Renaissance227 · 16/06/2011 12:13

Did you only have it on one side RobynLou?

yep, on my left side.
later on I got more stretchmarks on that side too - was just the way my babies lie I guess!

I have lower right side rib pain since last 3 weeks...mw says its just the uterus growing making room for the baby and have to grin and bear it. Dont worry.

I got this with my last two pregnancies and now I have a little hernia on that side. I think they tore my muscles (the babies) :-)
It pops out when I exercise or strain when bending down.

Thank you for all your advice on here everyone.
Just to update... I called my mw yesterday and she says that the lower ribs, called floating ribs, are made to expand and if they get knocked/pushed too much (from the inside by an arm, leg, or head) then then can become VERY sore and painful for quite a while.
Just have to be careful and grin and bare it!
Thank you everyone Smile

I end up taking paracetomol a few times a week because i feel like someones pulling my ribs apart. I told my doctor about mine and he barely batted an eyelid! Just one of those 'pregnancy niggles'.

At 32 weeks my baby flipped so he was head down and i finally had relief!... unitl three days later and now he's breech again and i can't lean forward because his big old head is in the bloody way!

You sound like you've got what I had before conception - costochondritis. Its inflammation of the cartilage in your ribs. Very painful and can be caused by excessive pressure. Exercise makes it worse. Dr. said for me to take NSAIDs but obviously you can't do that. Chiropractors made it a lot better though if you can try that. Float the idea with your GP. It took me 3 months to get my diagnosis so hopefully if its that then it'll cut down your waiting time!
Feel better soon!
