Mystery pain?

Hello hello. Amazed to find myself here on this board after 14 years of TTC and 11 years of assisted fertility.

Anyhoo am now 7 weeks and for the past two or three days have had a really annoying discomfort in my back, behind/under/around my left shoulderblade.

I'm on heparin and progesteron suppositories. I have Googled but cannot find any reference to muscle pains as an effect of these meds.

Is it just an unrelated coincidence? I guess it might be but thought I may as well ask in case it somehow really is related to being pregnant?

oh look, I am sure this is completely not at all related to your symptoms but shoulder tip pain can sometimes be an indicator of ectopic pregnancy. I'm bloody sorry I looked at this thread now but there you go. Give your early pregnancy unit a ring in the morning and say a mad midwife on mumsnet has suggested it.
Having said all that it is more likely to be trapped wind (yes I know how on earth can that cause shoulder pain?) so please please don't let me ruin your evening! Good luck

Oh gosh, thanks for the heads up. Stupid question but if both my tubes are blocked can a pregnancy still be potentially ectopic? Tubes were checked only just shortly before the IVF attempt that succeeded (so about two months ago) when we discovered they're blocked.

Have just found a description of "shoulder tip pain" and turns out my pain is not in my shoulder tip but actually in my back, kind of below the shoulder blade. And I have no other symptoms of ectopic. So I'm pretty sure it's that other suggestion: trapped wind. Thanks again for the heads up, I'm glad I checked!

Hi, I just wanted to say you cannot have an ectopic pregnancy with blocked tubes. Also, I had similar pains in odd places around my back and shoulders when I was eight to ten weeks pregnant - not constantly, just every so often, and I could not find any explanation for them at all. Eventually I decided it was a weird heartburn effect as it often followed eating? I am now fourteen weeks and no such pains. The body has funny ways of adjusting to the hormones - maybe this is all it is? Congratulations on your pregnancy. I am pregnant (my second baby) after over a year of IVF, and I am 43. It is a wonderful rainbow feeling isn't it?

Hi, funny thing after posting my original question I have had so many useful leads to follow that I've come to the same conclusion as kiteflying. The pains in my shoulder and back happen after lunchtime when I'm sitting at my desk at work. This afternoon I went into the office library and lay on the floor for 10 minutes (thinking that it's interesting how the pains are gone when I wake up in the morning) and it helped!

The pains are a lot milder today. I think just understanding that it's due to trapped wind has helped.

Yes, 14 years is a pretty incredibly long time. I think it's the heparin that finally made the difference. Before that we were (well, still are!) "unexplained".

I'm not yet at the rainbow-feeling stage. I'm hoping it will come. Right now I'm spending most of my (little) energy trying not to worry about various syndromes and other potential problems. Our first ultrasound is next week. Until then I think I will continue to feel slightly numb! We also don't know if its multiples or a singleton...

Hi FarawayWe - is the pain a burning sensation between your shoulder blades? I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago and some of what you have said has reminded me of my gallbladder attacks - certainly the only thing I could do to relieve the pain was to lay on a hard floor. It may well be nothing, but it might be worth mentioning it to your doc. Big congrats by the way x

Good luck for your first ultrasound. Hopefully it will make it seem a bit more real. I had early scans at six weeks, eight weeks, and ten weeks with my clinic and it did wonders to alleviate the anxiety.
