Hey all
We have one DS age 5and are thinking hard about TTC this year. I'd love for him to have a sibling vut I'm concerned a 5 nearly 6 year gap will be tOo much. Does anyone have this type of age difference in their family? I'd love to know what your experience is?

Too much for what?

Lots of people will have this type of age difference because lots of people have more than two children.

I have a 6 year gap between two of mine. My 12 year old is currently snuggled on the sofa watching TV with my 5 year old.

It's absurd not to have another child just because of a big age gap. There is an 8 year gap between me and my brother.

Surely you either want a baby or you don't Confused

There are two years between me and my first brother, nearly eight years between me and the second, and 19 years between me and the third (huge gap there!).

My first two brothers and I played together growing up, especially the two boys (there were 6 years between them). We didn't have the same kind of play together relationship with the youngest, the gap being so big, but because we were all older we helped look after him and teach him things. The age gaps seem less important as we get older but we all (especially us oldest three) have a lot of shared memories and experiences.

There's 11 years between my father and his brother and they're very close.

I think there are pros and cons about all the various age gaps. Seeing as you already have a 5 year old I wouldn't tie yourself up in knots about it. If you want to try for another child, you go for it!

Firstly sorry about my spelling there in the OP, I was on my phone and I may suffer from fat-finger syndrome!
Its not a case of not wanting a child, we would love another child with all our hearts. I think what I was trying to say is that I have Dsis X3. We fought and squabbled but were always, and still are, quite close. We also have a DBrother who was born 12 years after the youngest and while we adore him, it seems to be a different relationship. I would love to have my DS and his sibling have a close relationship. I just was curious to see if that bond could be found with children who had a large age difference between them.

I have 3 - 13, 11 and 4 and am 33wks pg. The 4yo adores the 13yo (feeling is mutual). I'm hoping that the 11yo will take this baby on as their own Smile

Go for it. It is what it is. Will be awaiting the conception announcement!
