How long does a crib last?

Specifically this one. Size of mattress is 89 x 38cm compared to a standard cot of 60 x 120cm.

At what age roughly would a baby outgrow the crib? Could they go from crib to bed or is that not going to work?

Just musing on options really. We can have a crib or a cot, but cannot fit a cotbed. When baby goes into their own room (i.e. when they outgrow the cot/crib in our room) they will have to go straight into the single bed that is in there, so need to be old enough for that to be ok. I don't want to buy both crib and cot due to cost & storage. However I would love a bedside/co sleeper crib/cot and this one wasn't too scary a price.

Ah, I have answered my own question! Just spotted the bit that says suitable for babies up to 3-4 months so this is a non starter!

My DS has just outgrown a similar size crib and is six months old BUT was two months premature so I would think you would get four months maximum out of it.

I really wouldn't bother with a cotbed. Just have a cot then straight into a normal single bed when the time is right.

Spilt I looked at the exact same crib in JL and I would not recommend it - turns out you cannot actually attach it to the bed with side down so not a safe option for co-sleeping - I was hoping to do that and the assistant at JL actually advised me not to buy it! Also not sure if you saw it irl but it seemed very wobbly and not sturdy to me :(

beesok I had only seen it online. It's a bit bad that even the staff think it's rubbish! Did you find a cosleeper cot anywhere? The only one I've seen online is the Cosatto Close to Me, but at £250 it feels very pricy.

DH is thinking of butchering an IKEA £70 one (he's quite handy with a toolkit!)

split I looked at the cosatto, arms reach amby etc etc and somehow wasn't convinced - I wanted something that would last at least 6 months and have wheels to be able to take it from room to room so I needed something like a crib and moses basket in one. I ended up buying the stokke mini-crib and although I can't attach it and co-sleep with it as such it can still be next to my bed and I can see baby through the bars. It wasn't cheap but I got it online on offer at £246 and if it lasts 6 months that is good enough for me.
After that I plan on using a montessori bed (mattress on floor) so wasn't concerned about cots and cot beds.

If you're DH is good at DIY then why not :) at £70 you aren't risking a lot and might get exactly what you want :)

I have a crib very similar to the JL one but with wheels. Even worse for securing to the bed! In reality it wasn't heavy enough to move as it is so wee and by the time the wheels were locked it was fine. I just popped a blanket across the gap. It's not like the baby jumps around in there and makes it move.

I had a co-sleeper cot with DC1, it was ok but made getting in and out of bed a bit more tricky as it takes up quite a bit of the bed length. If you have wide doorways then you?d probably find it easier to use than I did. We must have had a wee house because once the cot was up it was too wide for the doorways.

I loved my crib though, very cosy. If baby was still sleeping when I got up I could pop the side up and know he'd be fine. I had a 9lb+ baby and got a good 6 months out of it because we slept with the side down. I was very sad when DH put his foot down and DS had to move to the next room. (Mornings were lovely I?d watch him wake up). Will have the crib back up again for DC3 when he arrives.
