anyone know who is best for maternity bras, and also fitting? Measured myself last night using the usual formula (under the boobs then add 5 then over the boobs and the difference is your cup size etc) and then went out in my lunch hour today to get bra according to "right" size and it was awful. My boobs were cominng out of the BOTTOM of the bra....

help me before they hit the ground....

I went to John Lewis.
Bought an Elle Macpherson maternity bra and a few other nursing bras as well.

the women in JL have to be seen to be believed: they just look at you and know the right size..refreshing after M&S got mine wrong...

gossifer · 15/11/2005 14:37

the elle marpherson bras are great and sexy!

karmamother · 15/11/2005 15:10

M&S are crap, IMO!! I found John Lewis to be far better. I live up North & there is a shop called Sadie (the bra lady!) & she just looks at you as well. She told me that even if you're measured correctly & get a properly fitting bra, the same size bra from a different make might not fit at all. Every bra needs to be tried on. I'm also struggling to get a good feeding bra before I pop & I don't live anywhere near Sadie or JL. You'd think there'd be more available out there, wouldn't you?

Bravado make the best ones I've come across.

allyco · 15/11/2005 15:38

yes, of course, Sadie the Bra Lady! Why didn't think of her before. She's in Consett isn't she, and am ringing to make appointment. Am just unconfortable about revealing all to her staff!!

Has anyone ever had luck with Mothercare??

thanks for the advice btw

thought Mothercare were poor. Also, range of bra sizes limited. Is Consett the nearest to you? She has other shops which might be nearer. Where do you live?

my BEST maternity bra was my elle mcpherson one... really, really nice and worth the money

nhynes13 · 15/11/2005 19:08

Your bra size will be different everywhere you go and i know this because iv always been skinny with big boobs and my bra buying experiences are always nightmares even pre-pregnancy! try on as many as possible, from as many different places I luv my M&S bra's 2 pack for £20 there comfy and my boyf seems to find them sexy - dont ask me how!

TuttiFrutti · 15/11/2005 19:37

I loved my Bravado bras for comfort and fit, but my Elle Macpherson one was the most glamorous. Not that you can ever be really glamorous when breastfeeding .

It's really difficult to get the size right, because you will get bigger in the cup and smaller in the ribs just after the birth, and then your size will change again when you reduce breastfeeding. Bravado is good in that way because they don't sell standard bra sizes, they just make the 3 sizes extra stretchy.

eidsvold · 16/11/2005 08:15

JL were fab at getting the right size for me - both maternity and feeding bras... wore them for second pregnancy and still wearing them whilst feeding dd2 ( 1yo)

Freckle · 16/11/2005 08:18

Contact your local NCT branch. They should have a Mava bra agent who will fit you with one of their bras.

allyco · 16/11/2005 16:22

Never thought of NCT, that's a good idea. Aren't Elle MacPherson ones dead expensive? Will I look like her if I wear one?? If so, may be worth the expense.

Karmamother I'm in Gateshead. Got appointment at Sadie's on Saturday. Am dead excited at thought of getting boobs properly controlled. Will report back following that.... watch this space.
