Has anyone had very strong positive on preg test early and had twins?

Hi we have twins in the family on both sides, and DH's sister had twin girls 2 months ago. When preg with DS my test results where very faint even when I was several days late. This time ultra early tests strong positive and clearblue used early very strong positive .

Out of interest I have read that a strong positive, (indicating high level of the hormones) could mean a multiple birth. Has anyone experienced this?

Winding DH up that could be twins this time .

i had a very strong dark line but i had a little girl (my mum is a non-identical twin, on my dads side there are 5 set of twins - all non-identical and one is boy and girl, plus my Dads mum is a twin but her twin was a stillborn) so i was panicking about when i was first pg

so will be trying for a 2nd in 2007 so i will be panicky again!

I had very dark line with a Clearblue test the day my period was due. I took the test cos I was feeling so sick.

I was indeed pregnant with twins, so I think it can be a sign yeah.

Kelly1978 · 15/11/2005 12:55

my line wasn't particularly dark and it took forever to come up, three days late. In the early days I did feel a lot sicker though, and needed to go to the loo around twice an hour.

Kelly1978 · 15/11/2005 12:56

btw twins only run down the mother's side, and only non-id are hereditry.

futurity · 15/11/2005 12:56

I took my test a few days before period due as I was feeling sick and I got a very strong line which shocked me..and worried as I was a twin but thankfully (for me!) there was just one in there! (First time round line was quite faint..test taken day after period due)

Thanks for your response's seems we are mixed. Normsnockers I have been feeling sick since week 3, but not actually been sick. Last time started later but wasn't sick then either.

I understand twins go down the female line (although this doesn't seem to have been the case with my sil as it is her father's (my fil) side with the twins and her husband was a twin, his mother and grandmother where also twins.). My maternal grandmother was a non-id twin.

Jersey I have just done a very quick google and come up with this:

"Some women find out when they have abnormally high levels on the AFP test that multiples are on the way, since multiple babies would increase the levels of these hormones. It's also sometimes possible to detect multiples with serial hCG levels in early pregnancy. The more babies the faster the rate of rise in the hCG which should nearly double every 48 hours with a singleton."

How exciting!

rubles I presume this is the chemical the preg tests test?

Well all three tests I have done have been strong Crosses before the day AF was due, so we will see!

I did -- and I was pregnant with twins!! When I did the pee test, the line went blue immediately - must have been so much hormone there!!

I dont remember thinking that the line was different...but within a few weeks...I was feeling so exhausted with bad nausea...I thought that this was because I was older (38) had the others in my early 30s...had never had nausea before (this is bona fida sign) I felt really uncomfortable and stretched under my rib cage. Had slight bleeding and a scan at 8 weeks which showed that one had just died, one had died the week before and that one was left - at the time OK...I have my 12/13 week scan next week - so fingers crossed...it was all quite bizarre ...this is my 4th preg...so not that disappointed that my family is not going from 3-6 overnight...didnt know I was having 3 .. only when 2 had died..so just hope the last one is OK

jersey · 28/11/2005 08:57

Fingers crossed for you knackered. Thanks

I had strong test 2nd time round and was huge - all baby - everyone felt the need to comment on the size of my belly which seemed huge so early on - BUT only one for me.

eidsvold · 28/11/2005 10:17

meant to add - hope all goes well for you knackered.

jersey · 28/11/2005 10:37
