How early is too early to wash baby stuff?

Will be 26 weeks at the weekend and i see the weather is going to be beautiful

I have loads and loads of stuff of baby stuff to wash (given to me etc so i'll re-wash anyway) but then there are other things like blankets / the materials around the moses basket / the mats for baby gym etc that WILL need washing before baby comes in September.
Also a few cloth / material baby toys that I plan to stick through the wash

Im away for 3 weeks (3 seperate places) in July (and im sure the few days when im here ill be catching up on our washing from our time away, so was thinking is it too early to was some stuff (not baby clothes) this weekend?

I dont want to be stressing about it in Augast, and we dont have a dryer so i want to line dry it all while i can.

what do you reckon? or come September (3 months time) will i feel like i need to wash it all again?

Erm you really really don't need to. But if you insist, now is probably a good time.

I think you'll want to wash it again! I washed all the 0-3 at 30 weeks, but was poorly, so knew the longer I waited a) baby may come early b) I physically wouldn't be able to do it myself.

I've known people to wash early, only to get it all out again at the last minute to wash it. I find stored clothes lose the fresh smell and if baby born at term or late ends up small it could end up being 4 or 5 months from now that you'll use the 0-3 as you'll only use newborn!

That is a good point, I know many babies have objections to non-fresh smelling clothes.

thanks for the help

was only planning on washing baby gym mat and soft toys and soft books and stuff like that now. Stuff like that... (which probably doesnt really need washing anyway )

I dont plan on washing any baby clothes until much later (although my get just a few newborn bits ready when i pack my bags (which wont be until at least July))

I was similar to you. I got all excited washing stuff at about 28 weeks. I even set up the cot with bedding! I just ended up doing it again at the beginning of september before DD arrived on her due date at the end of september. I also had holidays and lots of work so thought I wouldn't get round to it later, but I did manage it. There was some beautiful weather at the beginning of september last year so I had lots of opportunity to line dry it all.

pootles hop off, there is no need for your attitude here! How does if nannyl or anyone else wanting to wash their naw babies clothes affect you in the slightest?? I did not suggest baby would care, but I like fresh smelling clothes! Also, some of us would rather our babies not ingest chemicals added to materials to stop them going mouldy, make them easier to stitch or rats pee - that's not considering the dirty hands that touch them in shops.

nannyl, yes, good idea to get toys and random fabrics washed. I was feeding so may have skim read

i washed last week but mainly cause my ebay stuff had a smell to it and now it doesnt. i am 24 and 4 atm.

Well I had quite a tough time following dd's birth. I struggled with lots of things, everything got on top of me and I was post-operative and lack of organisation made it worse.

So this time round I've done things entirely differently. I am also 6 months pg, due in Sept and I've recently washed all of the baby clothes left over from dd, cleared out drawers and put them in there in size order. Plus the bibs, muslins, cotton wool, nappies, nipple cream, nappy cream, breastpads, maternity pads etc. All set up. I've washed the moses basket covers and all bedding. The pram is scrubbed yet in the ILs utility room for now. Normally, I'd think it some peculiar form of madness to be so on top of it but having a hard time last time, I figure I'm giving myself a head start.

I will also be putting in the time to freeze meals this time round and bookmarking Internet shop sites for groceries.

I'm hoping I won't end up with ptsd after a traumatic delivery and my early preparation is not necessary.

But I've done it all the same.

I've just done my newborn stuff and muslins last weekend - am 32 weeks. We have to move in interim and wanted to get hospital bag packed just in case so needed to wash the newborn stuff. This time round just did it with ordinary non-bio. For my PFB used pure soap flakes and blocked up the machine - not doing that again .

I did mine at 36+2 which was a good job because I went into labour that night, I must have known.

This time my little one won't have been out of them long so not sure I will bother does that make me bad?

Just non-bio for me, didn't use anything special. Have actually moved onto biological DS is 8 months, because I am weaning and non-bio just doesn't cut the mush.

I should say, I will wash new stuff and second hand items, but not sure I will wash the items that DS has just grown out of as they were all washed and ironed before putting to one side.
Must say though I do like the newborn clothes on the line look makes it real somehow.

I've done mine today - I'm 34+2. Was going to wait a couple of weeks but had a scare last week and ended up in hospital for 48hrs so I want to make sure everything is ready!
