Hi everyone ,

just wanted some reassurance after reading the web. My sister in law treat me to a dermolgical facial for my 30 th birthday. The lady that did it did not useany products that are ' dangerous ' or press any pressure points however whilst relaxing with a oakmeal mask on she massaged my feet! which i have now heard can start labour !!!????? has anyone got any feed back about either of these ?

Ps 20 WEEKS !!!!!!

Hehe I really wouldn't worry - my DP gave me regular foot masseges when pregnant and DD arrived the night before her due date Grin

You should be fine - I think pressure points have to be really well worked to have any effect.
The facial will definitely be fine.

I work in a spa and we offer facials to women over 12 weeks without essential oils. We however don't give foot massages at any point throughout pregnancy for the reason you mentioned.
This may differ from place to place, and there is some debate as to wether or not it does cause early labour, but we'd rather not take the risk. I really wouldn't worry about it too much though, if you are concerned, speak to your midwife.

Foot massages don't bring on labour it's particular reflexes in reflexology that can be worked to help bring on labour. It's unlikely that she worked those points.

I was studying Complimentary Therapy when I got pregnant and as a Doula it's something I want to get into so it's something I've looked at.

Massage in general is safe but they'll use less pressure and probably do a chair massage instead.
