Sex in pregnancy

Can any one help. I had a small bled last week, it was later in the day after we had sex. The doctor we saw at the epu said not to have sex for a while to let things settle. But how long should we wait. Any ideas where to find out most gratefully received.

I had this in my first pregnancy. After it first happened I waited for things to settle having also been to the epu. Then it happened for a second time, so that was it for intercourse for the entire pregnancy. I think some people are more prone to it. It's not happened during thus pregnancy, but we are very careful not to go to deep !

When the same happened to me they told me to wait 10-14 days.

Have you had your 20 weeks scan yet? Do you know where your placenta is?

Ooh, 8 weeks I had a bleed. They said that you can have one a six weeks, implantation bleed and one at 8 weeks when the placenta attaches to your wall lining. Nothing to worry about! But just take it easy! Maybe hold off on the sex thing until your 12 week scan and hopefully everything would of settled down. X

i'd wait until 14 weeks. this unfortunately happened in a pregnancy I later miscarried (there were other issues though with the dates and rate of development), so with my son and my current pregnancy (10 weeks) we waited/are waiting until at least after the 12 week scan.

It happens to me all the time in all of i my pregnancies this is my 3rd, its only ever a little bit after and my MW said not to worry as its just because your cervix is more vascular. She said not to worry about it provided it was light but to try and avoid deep penetration. I would take settles down to mean the bleeding to have stopped, i have had my scan and am now 13 weeks and all is well despite the light bleeding. When you havesex again try the spooning position ie him behind that way no pressure on your tummy or cervix.

Its very different if you have a low lying placenta and have bveen told this but i'm guessing seeing as this was epu this isn't the case.

Yes it is, I have grade 4 placenta previa and am at 30 weeks now, I haven't been allowed to have sex or orgasm or over exercise for 10 weeks now!! It's driving me insane!! But your not that far gone and your placenta has only just attached. Ask them to look at your 12 week scan as they didn't with me and found it on my 20 week scan. But don't panic! Speak to your midwife x x

I had no problem with regular sex in pg1 and pg2. This is pg 3. At 12w I had a big bleed after sex and I have been worried about it ever since. Didn't do anything for a couple of months (OH works abroad so he wasn't even here) and the past couple of times he has only been in halfway, if that makes sense!

At 20w scan they said my placenta is just covering my cervix and I have another scan in 2 weeks to check whether it's moved. I haven't had any bleeding in 4 months so I reckon it should be OK now.

Gatecrash sorry.
I was told I have a low lying placenta and have to return for a scan at 34 weeks.

Should I be avoiding bedroom bopping then? I haven't been and haven't had any problems, but am a bit concerned after reading this now.

Nunnie - no, I think you're fine. I spoke with my consultant at 12w after the big bleed and he didn't say I must stop all sex for the pregnancy. Neither did they tell me that at the 20w scan after they discovered the low placenta. It's just a worry of mine because of the big bleed and so I can't 'relax' as it were and totally let go - am worried that OH getting very active might make me bleed again! And so is he.

I think low lying and complete coverage are a lot different in terms of what you can do in the bedroom wise though! As mine is completely in the cervix and if my uterus contracts, being were it is, it can detach the main blood vessels hence the sex ban! Captain barnacle, your grade 3 which they treat the same as grade 4, so I'm very surprised they didn't tell you not to have sex until you have your scan and see whether it's moved or not. Sorry to bore you with this on this thread nanny01, I'm not trying to scare you to death, your very early on so don't panic! X x

Ooo that's interesting - I didn't know about the different grades. Sonographer said it was just touching/maybe over so booked me in for 32w scan just in case (that's 2 weeks time now). Have had a google of the different grades so I think I'm a 3 or 2. Hopefully it will have moved as have had zero bleeding now (and only sex about 3 times if that!)

Good luck Nanny - am sure it will settle quickly. Just take it easy.
