I have a sage and lavender stick that I was just about to burn and it said on the packet - not reccomended during pregnancy. Does anyone know why???

Not got a clue unless it's the smoke factor!

I'm sure I read somewhere clary sage can start labour but then again it may just be an old wives tale, there's so many...

hhmm, tavish perhaps I should save for 40 weeks when I'm trying to get things moving then!

My mum has a book about herbs dating from the 16th century or something (hers is a reprint! Not some antique) with all the things they're supposed to be good for, and I was once flicking through it and saw that it said sage was supposed to be good for "bringing on women's menses" or something like that.

Clarys sage and lavender can both be used to help bring on labour. They shouldn't be used before 37 weeks. It's NOT old wives tales

right..... thanks boo and stark. It's gone back in my drawer! might use it ceremoniously to 'kick start' things when I need to!
