Confused... 2D, 3D 4D... what's the difference?

Had a letter through the post this morning offering me a 4d scan. But later down the page it says it is 3D.

Really confused Blush what is actually the difference between 2D, 3D and 4D scans?

Too confused to decide if I want one! Grin

TIA

Think a 4D scan is a 3D scan but you get a live moving image. A 2D scan is the normal flat image you'd get at a hospital scan. Hope that helps!

EveryonesJealousOfGingers · 25/05/2011 17:43

Presumably 2D is the normal scan, 3D is a 3D photo and 4D is a video?

activate · 25/05/2011 17:49

if it helps 4D doesn't exist

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 25/05/2011 17:56

Thanks, was never any good at quantum physics!

So it's 3D if I have pictures and 4D if I bring home a DVD?

But then you say 4D doesn't exist? Confused

well if the 4th Dimension is time what you'll get is a 2 dimensional image ie flat showing a 3 dimensional image ie looks 3d in the 4th dimension of time.

I hope that helps Grin

activate - i think my brain may explode. why is the 4th dimension time? im really stupid. I was rubbish at science.

The fourth dimension is time, so I'd always assumed that you got a DVD.
I think they call it 4D to make it sound technical.

X-post

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 25/05/2011 18:04

ok. i think i understand. Hmm

so 4d is just 3d being watched at another time? no?

PinkFondantFancy · 25/05/2011 18:15

It's what gingers and mrschemist said - 3d if picture taken home, 4d if video.

Cheers pink :)

So anyone had one? Any good? Worth the ££?

Sorry, last post sounded a bit chippy-didn't mean it like that at all!!! Apparently they are fab-several friends have raved about them. I'm trying to decide whether to have one so am marking my place to see what others say!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 25/05/2011 18:54

The one nearest to me sent me a letter with a code for 10% off, their cheapest package starts at £84.99 so not too unreasonable.

I never had one with DD but this time the hospital struggled to confirm the sex and I really want to know so might go just for the gender scan. Undecided still.

Have a friend who has had one but nobody in RL knows I'm pregnant yet so bit wary to ask.

Oh and your previous post wasnt snippy at all pink :)

Phew glad I didn't cause offence!! Apparently the really cool thing about the 4D scan is that their mannerisms in the womb are te same as when they are born, eg resting head on hand. I really cant decide if I want to know the gender or not, and I guess if I decide not, then if probably better not have the 4D scan as I'm assuming it will be a lot more obvious on that!

Tarlia · 25/05/2011 19:27

I had a 3D/4D and he just avoided the lower end of baby. Baby wouldn't remove hand from face and funnily was born with that arm with head - ouch! When swaddling, we were never able to keep that arm in, it would always escape.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 25/05/2011 22:44

if you look at some of the galleries online there are photos of the scans and photos of the babies after birth laying in the same positions, it's really cute :) babaybond has a gallery you can view :)

We found out the sex last week, but the sonographer really struggled to see and gave us 85% boy. I can't help but panic we'll buy blue and it'll come out a girl so would like it to be more obvious, probably the main reason I want another scan, just in case.
