19 weeks tomorrow with my second (3rd pregnancy) and still not really feeling anything. I have felt the baby move before but vaguely iykwim?
But not m not really getting anything. Have tried cold water, bath, sweeties etc but nothing is helping.

Is it too early to say anything? I have my scan next week on Wednesday and I heard the heartbeat at a check up at 16 weeks.
I can't really remember but I think I started to feel dd at about 18 weeks.

How soon you feel the baby can be affected by how they're lying and by the location of the placenta - if you have an anterior placenta in particular then it would be expected that you'd feel less and feel it later.

That said, if you're worried its always worth getting checked out - whatever your stage of pregnancy. Why not call your MW or the antenatal unit at the hospital and ask their opinion?

Borisneedsahaircut · 24/05/2011 16:55

Thanks Tangle, the other thing is that this time I am carrying more weight from before I got pregnant, I wonder if that could change things.

I felt baby really early (this is my 1st) at around 15/16 weeks - I had a panic at around 18 weeks as I hadnt felt anything for 2 days so I called the midwife. She was SO nice and I went to see her and heard baby :) who was hiding from me!

I'm sure everything is fine but to put your mind at rest just give your midwife a call - it's what they're there for. Good luck x

lollystix · 24/05/2011 17:29

Just call the midwives. I've been sick in hospital for a couple days and was totally paranoid (18 weeks). They've been out to my house to listen, been to the hospital and seen me at the dr. Been listened to 3 times in 5 days!!! And they just keep telling me to call back if I'm worried. Think about it, they always ask if you've felt movement at your check and would be concerned themselves if you haven't. They mentioned front placenta to me too as a possible reason. Ps heard fresh orange and a good lie down can wake them up a bit.

Rootatoot · 24/05/2011 17:38

By all means give them a ring to stop yourself worrying but I am sure you'll be fine. 18 weeks was around about when I got regular(ish) movement but I don't think I was getting proper kicks then as such. Weight is a factor - I read it somewhere I think BUT whilst I want to reassure you, the only way to know if you are properly worried is to give MW a call.

FollowMe · 24/05/2011 17:42

I'm expecting dc3 and at 18 weeks could feel nothing still either.
Started feeling movements around 22 or 23 weeks. Now 28 weeks and feel enormous wriggles.
My mw says v normal to not feel before 20 ish weeks.

If you've felt movement but it has stopped then I'd go and be checked to make sure all ok, bug if you haven't felt anything at all yet then I wouldn't worry

Borisneedsahaircut · 24/05/2011 17:54

Thanks ladies. I think I will call in the am and see what they say. it is reassuring to know some of you did't feel it until later though.

spatchcock · 24/05/2011 19:01

I first felt movement around 18 weeks, but probably only once or twice a week until about 23 weeks when it became more regular. My placenta is anterior so that may explain why.

I am sure you will be fine but call if you are worried.

candr · 24/05/2011 19:09

Hi, didn't really feel anything till 20 weeks then went from nudges to kicks fairl fast, hope all is ok am sure it will be x

Borisneedsahaircut · 24/05/2011 19:18

Thanks spatchcock and candr, I'm sure it is. I am pretty sure it said my placenta was posterior though on my notes x

Hiya, I'm 19.5wks pregnant with my 3rd baby. Felt baby move in 1st preg at around 18/19 weeks, 2nd at around 15/16 weeks, and with this one... nothing much at all!! Did feel some flutters around 16/17 weeks, but it hasnt really progressed to anything more... I have to really concentrate and sit still, and often nothing happens, then occasionally, when I double over eg to tie shoe laces, I do feel very faint flutter or movement. I too was slightly concerned as I felt movement so much sooner for babe no.2.... but lots of friends have told me about not feeling movement until 21/22 weeks with 2nd or subsequent pregnancies, mainly due to position of placenta. I have my 20 wk scan next wednesday so am hanging on til then. Really am sure its nothing to worry about....think we all expect to feel something so much earlier & then panic like mad when nothing happens!!

jenga079 · 24/05/2011 20:07

FWIW, I didn't feel anything at all until 22 weeks. I then discovered at the scan that I have an anterior placenta, which masks some of the movements. Midwife said it would be a blessing later when the kicks get harder!

Of course, if you're worried then call your midwife Smile

Borisneedsahaircut · 24/05/2011 20:09

Thanks Icrave - my scan is next wednesay too! TY Jenga x

Ahh, good luck for next wed boris... I know its easy to say, but I really am sure all will be fine. It also depends on how babe is lying inside you too, not just position of placenta... (s)/he might be facing your spine, so any kicks etc would be directed into your back bone, not out front on your tummy, therefore making it more difficult to feel anything. We are having to take our 2 little sproglets into the scan with us too, so god help the poor sonographer trying to check our baby is ok with a 4yr old & 2yr old running amok in the scan room! xx

dribbleface · 25/05/2011 10:17

icravecheese - just to warn you our local authority make the children stay outside with the other adult until they have checked all the bits they need to, hopefully yours won't but wanted to warn you!

inbetweener · 25/05/2011 10:28

Yep I can agree to the not feeling anything till gone 22 weeks thing. I am currently 31+6 with number three and felt DD1 and DD2 around 18 weeks. This time I waited AGES and was utterly paranoid. I now feel very strong movement and big old hefty boy kicks Grin but that wasnt until gone 22 weeks.

Personally I like to believe he was a lazy boy rather then the fact that its been 7 years since my last pg and my stomach is a lot firmer more massive Grin

icravecheese · 25/05/2011 10:36

many thanks dribbleface... i was aware that this might happen (i would actually rather sonographer have peace & quiet to check all is ok first, then let the rabble in afterwards!!). I think I remember a friend having to take her DS1 in with her during her 20wk scan with DD1, so I think my hospital might be ok....might double check now you've said tho, as I know how much hubby enjoys being in the scans too.

sunface · 25/05/2011 10:44

phew good posts ladies! i'm 21wks with my 3rd too and haven't felt much at all. If i do feel anything its the odd flutter really low down and that's about it. Have been so paranoid over the last few days as the 20wk scan last week baby was very very active on the screen. Placenta at the back so that's not getting in the way.... just a waiting game do you think?

Borisneedsahaircut · 25/05/2011 20:37

I had a doppler last time which helped too as I could listen to the heartbeat, It might be an idea?

Wormshuffler · 25/05/2011 20:47

I hardly felt My first DD, It wasn't until she was big enough to actually move my stomoch in the bath that I felt her, and she has grown into a placid if slightly lazy 11 year old. DS was a totally different story never kept still and is still the same now 9 years on!! try not to worry :)
