Advice and experiences needed re: liver function

I posted this morning having a whinge about Obstetric Cholestasis and itching and general feeling god awful-ness.
Anyway, I had a fasting blood test on Friday morning to check liver function, I had raised liver function last pregnancy but much later.
I am 32 weeks with twins and it has all come on a lot earlier this time.
I rang for blood test results just before lunch and the consultant himself has just rung me back to say they have been trying to get hold of me to go into clinic tomorrow as my liver function is raised very high.
They induced me with DS but I was 40 weeks so not a problem.
Has anyone had any experience of this, any idea what they might say??
I'm panicking they might want to get the babies out... not ready yet!!
Fuckety fuck... hope someone has had experience of this and knows if it serious enough to warrant drastic action....
TIA

Just bumping for advice please, DH is rapidly shitting himself because our kitchen is being done currently and it's got to get worse before it will get better!

Did they give u any figures??

mummylouise · 23/05/2011 13:11

I have had this before and suffer from liver diease so know what the figures mean. Normally with OC they will induce about 38 wks, but this would be dependent in ur results and how big ur babies are.

mummylouise · 23/05/2011 13:13

i was 35 wks with first and 37 with second and both dc were and are fine.
get bag and stuff ready in case hosp want to admit u. try not to panic cause its not good for ur system - drink loads of water.

WalterFlipschicks · 23/05/2011 13:18

Well he didn't give me these figures but ALT was up to 140 ish and Bile acids at 30 ish I think but that was the last test and he said they are raised higher than they were, these are complete estimates and from memory, which isn't good!!
They planned to induce at 38 due to twins anyway so we have been working around that date, when I spoke to him, he asked if the tablets he gave me were doing anything, Piriton/emolient cream/some kind of acid, said hadn't noticed any drop in itching, in fact this weekedn it's been unbearably bad, ahve bruised myself badly with scratching, he said and I quote 'oh dear oh dear oh dear!'
Babies at last scan 1 week ago were 4 1/2 lbs each and have been gaining quickly so chances are they are getting up towards 4 9/10 ish now based on the growth trend shown at last few growth scans... (every 3 weeks)
Any thoughts greatly appreciated Smile

ur previous results were a bit on the high side but not terrible. Docs will be most concerned about the bile results so ask about them - the plan they have outlined is a standard plan. Your babies seem a good weight and are still growing. The itching is terrible, i found nothing helped. My dd was 4lb 15lb and ds was 5lb 5oz. They will plan forward based on growth, bile and how u are feeling. if u feel rubbish tell them. Have u been on steriods during this preg??

WalterFlipschicks · 23/05/2011 14:07

Thanks, no, no steroids, the treatment last time was to induce because it didn't become a problem until 40 weeks, so obviously even though I have had it before it wasn't treated.

The bile ones are the ones he mentioned, you are right, the ALT levels were high from about 20 weeks last time, but the concern wasn't raised until my bile acids were higher as well, so I think thats the concern this time.

I will try not to panic and see what he says tomorrow!

hope all goes well, if u have any question and i can help usually on most days!!!

cameli · 23/05/2011 17:51

My dd is 11 days old & I was induced at 37+4 because of obstetric cholestasis. My ALT levels were regularly 220 and bile acids were high 30's most of the time. I was on weekly monitoring/blood tests/consultant & then twice weekly towards the end.

The itching was horrendous so I know how you feel. Piriton made bugger all difference. I was prescribed Urso & vit k which I also felt made no difference.

Apparently oc disappears after delivery-well I am still itching & my dd still has jaundice so we are still under the care of the midwife.

I hope all goes well for you. X

mummylouise · 23/05/2011 19:28

cameli - my itching did last post del. jaundice in both kids lasted a while too, was worried with dd, not so with ds.

RainbowShite · 23/05/2011 19:39

What's your bp like?

WalterFlipschicks · 24/05/2011 12:55

Thanks mummylouise my appointment is 2.45pm this afternoon so will see what he says, although I have had an apt through the post for a scan on the 2nd June, I rang and my consultant has requested, she said it was probably a liver scan, so will check about that too.
My itching stopped a few days after DS was born, but he was jaundiced for about a week iirc.
Rainbow, BP has been absolutely fine all the way through, so will look forward to a bit more info from the consultant this aft.

Just an update, alts raised to over 400 and bile acids raised very high, cocktail of drugs to control and weekly apts to repeat bloods, glad they didnt admit me!

OP posts:
mummylouise · 25/05/2011 18:56

bit high now. what drugs did they give u? How u feeling??

WalterFlipschicks · 25/05/2011 19:24

Vit k, upped dose of the acid, and carry on the piriton, have to go for a liver a gall bladder scan on thurs, they repeated bloods and tested for everything under the sun. Might buy a parking permit for hospital!!
How long did itching last after delivery for you? Mine went almost instantly last time but was much less severe then

OP posts:
mummylouise · 25/05/2011 19:27

about 2 wks i think, during second preg i was on steriods so liver results were ok. ur clotting not good??? eat nuts to help with vit k. what type of acid??
