What is the more accurate due date?

I was just wondering about due dates- from all your vast experiences, is the date by scan or the date by last period more accurate? My two dates were a week out (scan a week later), although I'm sure that neither will actually be right and baby will come when it's ready. I've taken the scan date as my 'official' date - has anybody else's varied and if so which date was closer to the actual birth day? I'm not bothered, just curious!

Oh, and how accurate are scans at telling the sex? HAs anybody's been wrong? My dh still suspects that we're having a boy, even though the sonographer said she thought it was a girl. She also said that that was the way they got it wrong most often as it's easier to say for definite when it's a boy. Again though, neither of us are bothered, just curious!

On due dates, no one ever gets them right it seems, but all doctors will tell you that the scans are a better predictor than the date of last period. For me, I was really late in any case - but I think the scan date was farther off than the date from my last period.

On scan sex determination, both of mine have been extremely accurate, but it really depends on the skill and experience of the sonographer. You can get 100% accuracy of sex determination from an amniocentesis, but with sonography, there's always room for error. HTH.

Hi Hayls - I went by the scan date with both my pregnancies, as they tallied with the conception date (you can work your due date out if you know the conception date) - both my babies were born on their due date which is pretty unusual! My periods were slightly iffy both times which is why I didn't go that way. And with my second they showed me her bits on a scan (26 weeks) and it was clearly a girl.

Dahlia, I have absolutely no idea of the conception date. Only way I have any clue is going by the scan dates and my period dates, which doesn't help me! My periods were also a bit iffy, so much so that I didn't even know I was pregnant until nearly 7 weeks. So I suppose to only be a week out with the two is actually pretty good! Anyway, I don't really mind when she arrives. Although obviously not too early!
