Roast chicken, but the use by date was yesterday.
Dh insists it will be fine, as it has been in the fridge and will be cooked thoroughly, and mega hot.
Really its only a few hours out of date.
I am only 4+6.
If I was not pg I would eat it, as I am not too bothered about use by dates if it seems fine.

Chickens soooo dodgy! I wouldn't eat it even if I wasn't pregnant to be honest

Coppernoddle · 21/05/2011 15:19

Your joking!! That's crazy!! And chicken isn't dodgy if it's cooked well! Let me tell you this! My husband works for the food industry and see's hundreds of factories every week! Now, they are shortening there use by dates and sell by dates because they want people to throw them away and buy more to make more money as people think they've gone out of date! There all at it! On everything! I use chicken if it's a day or so out, I also cook it for about 3 hours and it's fine! You can tell very easily with meats, if it smells spoilt or looks spoilt, don't use it! Gosh there was a woman on here not so long ago caught salmonella with ice-cream and what about the friji thing that happened not so long ago! Don't be so hard on yourself, you stomach is tougher than you think, just because your pregnant, it's not changed the lining to your stomach! Eat it! It's a waste otherwise!! Enjoy x

Thanks copper - that is what I wanted to hear!
I would never normally give it a second thought! Used by dates are a big con most of the time.

Smell it, If it smells fine youre good to go.

Besom · 21/05/2011 15:31

I agree with Coppernoddle - it'd smell weird if it was off.

Mum2be79 · 21/05/2011 17:42

It'll be fine! I think too many people read into the sell by/use by/best before dates too much.

I've had fresh meat products that have been a couple of days past with absolutely no effects whatsoever. In fact my last tummy bug that I had was when I was 15 - 17 years ago due to a cream bun from the bakers.

personally I think bugs are good for you. The more you're exposed, the better your immune system copes. It's the same with cleaning. Many 'experts' believe a clean home can actually make people more vulnerable to allergies, bugs and germs because they're not exposed to them.

Well, I've eaten it, and it was lovely Grin
thanks all!
