How can I get an early scan?!

I'm 9+1 with my first, and have had awful morning sickness which has been really getting me down and feeling isolated Sad I've been feeling totally paranoid about miscarrying too.

Yesterday I had some pale pink when I wiped, and felt sick and didn't eat properly, I was severely sick in the evening due to this so took today off to rest and rehydrated myself after all the puking. This eve I've got brown blood in my knicks, not a huge amount but enough to make me totally panic.

Anyway I'm desperate to find out if my little prune is ok and feel totally clueless about the system! I went to GP at 5wks who booked me into the hospital to give birth. My booking appt is there in a week, I should wait until then I know but the bleeding is worrying me so much! Who should I call? Do I just go to A and E and ask for a scan? My surgery? The midwives bit of the hospital? It's so confusing.

Thanks and hoping someone can help x

I'd call the midwives at the hospital or the early pregnancy unit if you have one. But the midwives will be able to point you in the right direction.

Does your hospital have an early pregnancy unit? You can phone there and self referr.

Good luck with you pregnancy and have a huge and a squeeze. I know it's so stressful.

The early pregnancy unit at the hospital should be able to help
Try not to worry, spotting in early pregnancy is very common, I had it with all mine and all was fine x

I had similar and was sent by my GP to my early pregnancy unit and was given an early scan. But I would call the midwives, I already had an appointment with my GP.

In my area we have to contact the GP first and then they refer you to the EPAU in the local hospital as soon as possible. If you choose to call your surgery first, then make sure you do it first thing in the morning when they open, as sometimes the emergency scans can get booked up pretty quickly.

I hope you will be ok, try not to worry. Brown blood is old blood, and I know many women who have had this type of spotting and then go on to have healthy babies. Keep positive. xx

Pay for a private scan

Thanks all. I'm going to try not to panic today. Was off work yesterday and going in today, so can't do anything about it today anyway. Lots of googling tells me that unless it's red blood and gets steadily heavier, it's probably just old blood. If it gets loads worse I'll phone the midwives bit of the hospital for advice.

God, please let it be ok and hurry up 12 weeks!

Mine wouldn't scan Me until It was red and I had cramps, and to be honest I wished I hadn't had that scan as a heartbeat was detected and then I lost it anyway.

I have everything crossed for you that you will be ok, as lots of other posters have said, many people have spotting that goes on to be nothing to worry about. xx

I had the same thing at about the same time. I rang the midwife who told me to get an emergency GP appointment. I did that and the GP sent me to the Early Pregnancy unit for a scan. Fortunately everything was fine, i am now 26 weeks. I hadn't wanted to make a fuss but am glad i went as everyone was really nice and said it's always best to get these things checked. It was very reassuring.

I had this and called my gp and left a message, he called back within 2 hours with a time for an appointment at the hospital the next day. At 6w I was told I measured 4w and sac was empty so probably not a viable pg but was to return in a week. A week later I measured 7w (in line with my dates) and the sac was no longer empty - it had 2 babies in it!

TBH early scans can cause just as much stress but I'm now 22w (still paranoid by everything and desperate to get to 24w - I was so relaxed with dd1). It all seems a long time ago now. The sickness is a good sign as it's usually linked to high hormone levels. I was really pleased to feel sick as it made it more real - my pleased emotion didn't last as I was still being violently sick at 16w but still! Good luck, brown blood sounds positive - probably just your body getting ready to get bigger.
