hi , am 20 weeks and wondering when I will be able to feel kicking through bump? Only ask as I am currently lying in bed and felt some weird movement when resting my hands on bump!
Have been feeling what I think are movements for a week or so. So hard to know as is my first:) I have my scan soon so will be able to relate babies movements to screen which will help

I think it very much depends on where the baby is lying... My DH could feel the movements from the outside at about 24 weeks I think.

And Congratulations!!

You can see them on the outside about 28 weeks! Very exciting!

I think it is very much an individual thing; my DH could feel kicks from the outside at about 19-20 weeks. Now at 25 weeks, my belly practically dances in front of us! Very cute Smile

Varies - for us, since about 21 weeks (for me, I think about 20 weeks, but for sure at 21 - they are actual kicks/punches now) :)

At 17 weeks I was lying in the bath and SAW a kick from the outside! By 22 weeks I could see kicks and thumps through my clothes, even (quite distracting when I'm sitting on the sofa trying to watch TV). I have quite a vigorous baby, clearly Grin

I'm 20+1 and have been feeling stuff on the outside for a week or so.

However I'm totally sceptical as to whether it's the baby or not (my DH claims it is) as I have a very growly stomach anyway and have no recollection of my pre-pregnancy days and whether this is normal for me!

Bartimaeus · 19/05/2011 11:02

Am so jealous! Grin

Am 20 + 3 and I can barely feel movements myself, let alone feel/see them from outside! Fingers crossed it happens soon, although my mum said me and my brother didn't move much so maybe my baby will be like that (poor DH, he's desperate to feel a kick!)

KatieWatie · 19/05/2011 11:07

Does anyone know if it's more difficult to feel/see movements and kicks when you've got more fat on your body?

It's just a theory, not saying anyone is fat...!

apricotears · 19/05/2011 12:02

HAHA! Pondering the big questions in life I see Katie... lol!

I've just been to my 22wk appointment and the midwife was very amused at dc2's antics. He kicked her sonicaid, punched her hands and then wriggled off from oblique, through cepahalic and finally into breech, contorting my stomach as he went.

With dd I had an anterior placenta and it was much later but this little baby has been wriggling around in a way you can feel from the outside since about 15 weeks. He's like an acrobat.

It really is different in each pregnancy.

Katiewatie Dunno - I wear a size 10 if that helps contibute to the debate! Grin

To add another element I have fairly strong stomach muscles due to my karate training, maybe that's why I can't feel much? (grasps at straws...)

I am 22 weeks and yesterday saw kicks from outside, have felt them for 2 weeks but not daily, mostly just nudges but the last couple of days he has been very active - am normally a size 8 so have quite a small bump so people say, feels big to me!

CBear6 · 22/05/2011 11:01

Bartimaeus, you might have an anterior placenta. It isn't a bad thing and won't have any negative effect on your baby, all it means is that your placenta is attached to the front of your uterus and it can muffle movements, especially the early ones - imagine it like baby punching/kicking at you from behind a pillow, you won't be able to feel it through the pillow until he/she gets a lot bigger and stronger.

With first babies it's common not to feel any kicks until around 22-24 weeks and with anterior placenta this can go as high as 24-26 weeks. I had anterior placenta with DS and got my first proper, unmistakeable kick during my 20 week scan and DH could feel kicks from the outside by around 25 weeks. I have anterior placenta this time too, I'm 24 weeks and felt flutter at around 17/18 weeks with real kicks since about 21/22 weeks but DH hasn't felt them yet.

AppleyEverAfter · 22/05/2011 14:46

I felt kicks from 19 weeks but my DH couldn't feel them with his hand until about 21 weeks. Now I'm 22 weeks and can see the bump moving if it's a big movement. Was size 16 before PG, but all my belly fat is sitting at the bottom of the bump, as the top of the bump is quite firm. And I can still feel the kicks through the flabby bit!

FrameyMcFrame · 22/05/2011 15:12

If it's your first baby you'll feel kicks a bit later as you still have plenty of stomach muscles. Second or subsequent baby you feel them early as your stomach muscles are none existent or split down the middle.

If you have strong core muscles you'll feel less altogether.

Eviepoo · 22/05/2011 16:26

I'm 27 weeks and all of my movements feel very internal and low down, I am a 14/16 and a wee bit overweight I also have an anteria (sp?) placenta so was putting it down to those two factors
