Over 3 weeks difference between LMP date and Scan date - confused!

Hi, just wanted to ask about this as usually there isn't such a massive difference between the 2 dates. I just wanted to find out if anyone else had a discrepancy like this, and if they can shed any light on it? So far I've only come across people where the LMP and scan date differ by a few days at most.
my last period started July 15 and my cycle is about 35 days although it can vary. This would have given me a due date of around April 28 2011.
However when I went for my 12-week scan (which I thought at the time I was getting at 15 or 16 weeks pregnant), I was told I was just 10 and a half weeks pregnant and that I was due May 20 2011.
So basically with my due date being May 20 you'd have thought I'd have my last period in August, not July. I don't really understand why my body skipped a period in August as according to my (scan) due date, I wouldn't have got pregnant until the end of August.
Should i just not worry about this, and stick with the scan date as my due date? after all the baby's not here yet so i guess it must be the right one! just very confused about what my body is doing. thanks for any help.
