Currently 31 weeks pg with DC2. MW has just been and I'm only measuring 26-27 cm so she's sending me for a growth scan. Have never been particularly convinced by the method of measuring as so much seems to depend on baby's position (any MWs reading feel free to correct me!) but still can't help worrying. Just want to cry really :( Explains why everyone keeps saying I'm so neat anyway!

Could just be I've lost weight since last appointment - MW said it's probably from dashing around after DD though have also just come back from holiday and was a bit ill then so perhaps that's it. Just been looking in the fridge and trying to think of something that is both high calorie and nutritious - bit of an odd sensation when I'm usually overweight rather than under Confused

Sorry if this is bit nonsensical, midway through giving DD lunch but fretting Blush :(

Glad you've been reassured. I measured very small with DD, and she emerged at just under 7lbs.

my DSis was small for dates with her DD - they kept giving her extra scans which worried the crap out of everyone, and she gave birth to a smallish baby (6lbs), but three years later she is an average size and just so wonderful! So don't let them worry you unnecessarily

I was actually told DS had shrunk!

I had pre eclampsia so was taken in to hospital and monitered from 32 weeks. I was scanned every week. About 4 weeks before he was born he looked as if he had shrunk. I had to go up to UCL for a doplar scan (16 yrs ago) and thankfully showed everything was still ok.
When I had gone for my original dating scan, he was small for dates and they decided it was because I had long periods and I had probably ovulated at 3 weeks instead of two weeks and they moved my dates by a week.

DD1 was apparently "growth-retarded", and was induced early at 38 weeks.

Nothing wrong with her; she was small at 5lb 7oz, and stayed tiny for the first few years, but is now a strapping 10 yo who eats like a horse, and swims and runs for her school.

I think I just carried her neatly - I am quite tall and had a very neat bump, and I don't think the arbitrary measurement technique coped with that.

They tried to spin the same story with DD2, but I hung on until she appeared naturally at 41 weeks at 7lbs.

Thanks again for all the replies. Just wanted to update to say that the results are in Grin - DS born today at a manly 8 lb 10 oz. So much for not being as big as his 7 lb 12 oz sister!
