hi,

I'll be 23 weeks pregnant on Friday. So far I have been noticing flutterings when i lay down or sometimes during the day when sat at my desk. Nothing I could call a kick yet though.

Yesterday at work I had a fright. I was sat at my desk and one of the floor to ceiling windows burst with a bang so loud I thought it was a gun of something! It gave me such a shock that I burst into tears, very embarrassing but I couldn't help it. It took me a little while to calm down.

Since then I'm a bit worried about whether this would have effected the baby at all. It was such a loud noise, would it have shocked the baby too?
I have felt some movement since, just a few flutters. Do you think at this stage I would only be feeling the baby when it's in the right position? What do you think a shock like that would do to the baby?

I'm over-reacting I'm sure, but can't help but worry.

Thanks

I'm sorry you were frightened but your baby will be just fine I'm sure. There's no shame in calling your midwife if you need reassurance and a once over.

At 23 weeks the flutters do come and go depending on where they're mooching about.

Please don't worry - the baby is so well cushioned in there it will be fine! It's your eardrums I'd be worrying about. Hope you are feeling ok.

Have you got an anterior placenta? I have and it took me a while to feel movements. At 23 weeks I could feel fluttering some days and not others.

I would have felt upset and shocked too think bursting into tears would be a normal pregnant woman's response!!!! I had a situation at work yesterday when two boys started fighting and a jolt of adrenaline went shooting through my body - I expect baby experienced the adrenaline too but I would have thought that like me would have calmed down as that passed by. I was a bit concerned that it would not have been a pleasant experience for baby but then I would imagine many women have many such experiences through out the pregnancy. I have decide baby is probably okay. Hope that helps!!

thank you, I could feel the tears coming but couldn't stop them. Everyone at work has been really nice about it today asking how i am and saying it's understandable.

I'm sure the baby is fine, it was just a worry at the back of my head, thank you for the reassurances..

My placenta is posteria high up apparently. I think sometimes i can tell it's a flutter and sometimes I'm not sure.

When is it normal to start feeling proper kicks?

thanks.
