5+2 and terrified

Okay so I only found out I'm pregnant two days ago but already my mind is in a whirl of fear and panic. I'm happy about the baby, don't get me wrong, just terrified something is going to go wrong. My mam is a veteran mother of four and is constantly reassuring me that everything will be fine and I'm worrying over nothing... I'm now panicking that I haven't had any morning sickness (just on/off nausea).

I know I'll get a lot of 'you're not the first person to be pregnant, relax' etc, just needed somewhere to vent and worry out loud.

Congratulations! Don't worry re symptoms - appreciate it while it lasts:) I panicked until 8 weeks that I didnt have any morning sickness and then it started and I still have it now at 21 weeks!

You poor thing, I don't think there's any sympathy I can offer in response to that!

I had no nausea most of the time and it terrified me (now 16+5). Try not to panic, statistically 1 in 4 women wont have any form of sickness or nausea, while only half of all women will actually be sick. Plus, there's still time for it to kick in, most people I know noticed it at about six weeks.

Other things that aren't necessarily bad are cramping, small bleeds and if all your symptoms disappear all together. Obviously if you are worried at any point call your GP or midwfe/EPU (depending on when your health authority do booking in) but I found the ladies on here to be an absolute goldmine whenever something was worrying me, because chances are someone has been there before you.

Here's to a healthy nine months for you Brew , and congratulations! Grin

Congratulations, Tanif! Don't underestimate the hormones in the first tri; for me it's like having PMT x about 100, which makes me utterly irrational and inclines me to overthink everything, which is not great when combined with a pregnancy/can't tell anyone yet/can't check if everything's okay/christ I'm tired scenario.

I'm 12 weeks now, and have variously convinced myself that this pregnancy is a) ectopic, b) has miscarried and I missed it and then c) is actually twins. I'm fairly sure none of these are true, but as I say, pregnancy makes me insane.

Tanif · 17/05/2011 14:42

Thank you toria and tortoise one thing I would love is for it to be twins... Of course I say that now as someone expecting #1 with no real foresight on the matter lol

I think for most people ms doesnt kick in till about 6 weeks. Thats when I got it with all mine about the 6 week mark and it came with full force, more like 24 hr sickness. But dont forget some lucky people don get it at all, fx you one of them

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 17/05/2011 14:52

Oh I'd quite like twins too (mad) but my entire reason for thinking it was "I'm fatter than last pregnancy". And since my entire reason for thinking missed miscarriage was because I didn't get any MS and hardly any fatigue, I somehow do not think it's twins!

jobrien1980 · 17/05/2011 15:17

Don't worry. As other people have said morning sickness doesn't usually kick in until around the sixth weeks and a fair few women don't get it at all.

blueeyedmonster · 17/05/2011 20:11

Last time i convinced myself that I wasn't actually pregnant and I was so scared when it came to the scan s that there would actually be nothing there. The only symptoms I had was slight dizzyness and going off wine!!

I am a lot more relaxed this time just really want to get to the first scan asap. I have more symptoms this time too. Metal tase in my mouth, really sore boobs and nausia when I am hungry. All whcih started later on last time.

I think it can be normal to feel like that, especially first time round.

blueeyedmonster · 17/05/2011 20:13

Oh and i'm really tired!

Sorry for the awful spelling!!

Tanif two days ago I posted exactly the same concerns about the lack of morning sickness. Well let me tell you today MS has arrived with vengence and I constantly feel sicky.

I have my own business and my staff member has gone on holiday today so Im hoping I make it through the next two weeks.

FX you do not get any morning sickness x
