Im a first time mom-to-be in a new country and overwhelmed with the amount of stuff one needs to buy for the baby. Can you'll pls help me on the must-buys before the baby is born. Would really appreciate it.

Newborns need somewhere to sleep, stuff to wear (vests and sleepsuits), stuff to eat (boob or bottle), nappies and if born in hospital a car seat/buggy to get home in. Thats it on the need front really although baby shops etc would have you believe otherwise - if you start with that you won't go far wrong and you can gradually get your head around the rest of the stuff.

Are there any ante-classes that you can go to to get to know other mums, either new or repeat offenders!?!

Yep you need very little really-

Car seat - Essential if you have a car but everyone I know has had one regardless for taxis and lifts places.

Pram or sling

Place to sleep - This can be a moses or crib for the first few weeks but equally can go straight into a cot. You do not need cot bumpers, duvets and pretty accessories. You can use sleeping bags once a few weeks old or just a normal blanket

Nappies

Clothes - Vests and body suits are the most practical for newborns

Boob or bottle as above

Nothing else is really essential but I like to have a baby gym and bouncy chair for somewhere to put baby when its not asleep.

gosh where to start! i was given a fantastic pregnancy book which lists everything you need but i would search the web as you will find loads of useful lists. basically i'd recommend babygrows/baby vests/car seat (travel system), bibs, moses basket and or cot, flannels, towels, feeding equipment (depending if you breast feed), baby wipes, sudocrem, baby bath, changing mat, nappies. hope this helps.
