Neurofen in pregnancy

Hi ladies,

Just after a bit of info. I am in my second trimester (12+4) and still getting awful migranes. Paracetemol does nothing and I do take Imigran IF they go on for days and I can't keep anything down. The one thing that does sometimes help is 1 neurofen. Last time round my mw said this was fine, but my consultant is very against me taking ANYTHING. I can't not take anything, I will be far too sick and end up in hospital. Does anyone know if the odd neurofen will do any harm?

Ibuprofen is a no-no afaik.

Codiene is okay.

in germany they say that nurofen in the second trimester is ok, if there is no bleeding and no other risk factors.
I think you need to talk to a different consultant, saying you should not take anything (WTF) when you are clearly suffering is not OK imo.

I was told by my OB-GYN (in the US) that ibuprofen is safe in certain stages of pregnancy but not others. To reduce any confusion they just say don't take it at all. I can't remember the exact timing that it's okay and not okay but I think if you spoke to a different doctor you might get a more sensible answer.

I know this is not the same thing at all (as I understand you're talking about severe migraines) but for bad headaches my doctor told me to drink something with caffeine in it to dilate the blood vessels and reduce the pain. I was actually avoiding caffeine during pregnancy but thought it was interesting they gave that advice!

Ibuprofen is a non starter. Codeine is fine (if you can get a pharmacist to sell you the damn stuff).

Don't accept being told to take nothing. That's just unnecessarily cruel.

Ibuprofen is fine in 2nd trimester. Nurofen even advertise it in the bounty book.

But i dont think 2nd trimester begings until 13 / 14 weeks so i wouldnt take it at 12+4
