When does implantation take place?

Just wondered if anyone can tell me around when implantation takes place? Is it straight after conception or later? Also when do symptoms tend to start? Sorry for my ignorance but would be interested to know! Thanks!

I've been told around a week for the fertilised egg to travel to the uterus, and a couple of days after that it will implant.

Some women may feel something very soon afterwards, but I have a friend who didn't have symptoms for 3 months with her third child and had no idea...

I know it doesn't help to hear this, but be patient and time will tell.
