I am 17 weeks +1 today and just felt a very sharp pain on my right side (positioned a little down from my belly button right over on the right) that was very quick. It made me jump a little and felt a bit like a small electric shock!
Could this be my first kick or is it too early?
I've had fluttery feelings for the last couple of weeks on and off.
Not felt anything else since, though it was only ten mins ago now!
I'm now a little freaked out!

I think it is probably a kick. My friend started feeling kicks very early on in her pregnancy. It's more common to start feeling them later but I guess there's exceptions to every rule! :)

Thanks hmmmum.
So can a first kick feel like a little electric shock??

I found a lot of kicks like a little electric shock. Especially when they're right down near the bladder and you have to make a mad dash for the loo! Congratulations, BTW!!

Thanks youretheoneformefatty!! Glad you had the same feeling. I just thought it was just another twinge type thing with all the stretching until a realised it was short and sharp!! Grin

Is it usual to just feel one kick and then nothing at all in the early stages? I've felt nothing now for nearly half an hour!!

yeah that's normal - you don't really get regular movement until the third trimester (at least I didn't). Even then, the baby will go off for a wee sleep here and there and you'll not feel anything for a spell.

i used to get one kick some mornings then nothing for the rest of the morning at that stage,. i think he was telling off me for lying like that and now at 22 weks i get the same but strong if I do the same thing.

I've been feeling this baby since 15 weeks (at my 16 week appointment the mw was v surprised when he booted her hands as she felt my stomach). The early movements feel like nudges and wiggles for me. I also get sharp electric shock type pains down and usually to the right of my belly button. They're round ligament pains.

Who knows though?

Renaissance227 · 17/05/2011 09:01

Thanks OppositeOfBlooming. So it was probably just a ligament?!
Nevermind

It could be all manner of things. The only way you'll know is that it will happen again and then again and again and will slowly change in nature to definite and visible kicks and wriggles.

For me baby movement wasn't electric shock in feeling (though ligament pains were) but like a beat inside you. Sort of like when you listen to loud music and it makes the floor vibrate. But inside you iyswim.

But it's pregnancy. Aches, pains and weird feelings are the norm. Congratulations!
