Hi I was searching the web for advice about coming off anti depressents and mood changes when pregnant. and found this site. Im 8 weeks pregnant and came off the anti depressents citrapram as soon as I found out my doctor told me too. Last weeks or so been feeling very tearful and anxious also not wanting to do anything or having the energy to do any house work. What Im interested to know before I go back to the doctor is if anyone else feels like this and it is in fact normal around the first trimester and not depression at all! Of course I will still meantion this to doctor just interested if anyone else feels like this or if anyone has had experiance of coming of anto depressents while pregnant thanks!!

During the first trimester your body is trying to manufacture enough red blood cells to get enough oxygen for you and the baby. It can leave you feeling tired and lacking energy till your body catches up. It's perfectly normal to feel very tired and weepy, that's normal. Try not to worry.

Hi, sorry you are not feeling so well. I came off citalopram just before Christmas last year and I took it really slowly, it took me about 2 months to come off them properly and I didn't have any side effects. If you stopped suddenly I think that may be the problem, as your body needs to get used to it. On top of that you are pregnant and your body is working really hard 'producing a baby' so I am not surprised you are feeling down. Try not to worry and if you are already off the pills try another couple of days and see if it improves as your body may get used to it, if not go back to your GP and ask for advice. Good luck!

Ive been having days of feeling down and too tired to do housework ect. Assumed its normal with all the changes. You know yourself better than anyone else and if it gets too much see your gp.

Hope you start having some good days. :)

Some tiredness and anxiety is normal, but as it sounds like you are prone to depression anyway it's important you keep an eye on it and speak to your doctor or midwife if you are at all worried. Ask your friends and family to look out for changes in your moods and behaviour too, as it's not always obvious to yourself and it's easy to slip into depression.

I was on citalopram but came off before trying to conceive. I feel that the hormones flowing through your body during pregnancy are so strong that they sort of take over from any emotions you were feeling before. Which can be both good or bad. Pregnancy is a full-on time both physically and emotionally.

I am lucky that I seem to be ok without the citalopram (am now 38 weeks). However at the start of my pregnancy the doctor said that although citalopram is not advisable in pregnancy there are other anti-ds which you can take. The most important thing is for you to feel well in yourself so I would recommend a chat with your doctor to discuss options. I think knowing that there is help available can often go part way to making you feel better IYSWIM - it can be a bit of a safety net to keep anxiety and bad feelings at bay.

So my advice is definitely to talk things through with your doc.

pregnantmimi I also had to come of the same drug like you 2 weeks ago not sure if the anxiety is because of the lack of medication or the news of an unplanned 5th pregnancy. I am feeling like you so you are not alone. I am treaing my self to an early scan next week (8 weeks) to help me. My anxiety is ok at the moment but the last couple of weeks I was really ratty with every one, I am amazed that no one guessed .
