i currently work night shifts and I would like to know if there are any laws concerning time off for hospital appointments which fall in the morning when I am sleeping. Everything I have found so far relates to paid time off for people that work normal day time hours,my argument is that you wouldn't book a doctors or dentist appointment during the middle of the night when most people are asleep!

Well, it's illegal to not give time off for hospital appointments, but this is a tricky one. You'll have to discuss it with your employer, just say what you have said here. After all they can't expect you to be up in the day for appointments AND work at night!
