I am having a nightmare with my legs. In the evening I get really restless legs amd changing position in bed is almost scary as the sightest tensing of legs brings on cramp and when in bed I spend most of the night on the verge of sleep as I keep feeling cramp coming on in my calfs. I normally get a bit of cramp when weather warms up and add more salt to my diet as well as drink more water but can not add salt now. Have had cramp for a few nights in a row and bought a heat pad to put under legs but am too hot to leave it on, need to turn it on when I feel the cramp coming but it means I am getting about 2 hours sleep a night. Any suggestions please as I am now in tears of fustration at night with lack of sleep and have enough on my plate to stress about without this.????

Hi, I was having bad cramp a few weeks ago. Got it about 3 times but thankfully not since. My mum (backed up when I mentioned it to the doctor) said drink tonic water. The small amount of quinnine helps. Another one I read was isotonic sports drinks which I tried. Could be coincidence but been ok since, though have made concious effort not to stretch my legs in bed!

Good luck , I know cramp is so painful and it's really miserable when you are not getting enough sleep.

There was another thread about this and it turned out the poster had anaemia I think. It's in pregnancy quite recently.

Another thing that helps stop cramps is bananas. They contain tonnes of potassium which is more effective at stopping cramp than the sodium in salt anyway. 1 banana a couple of hours before bed should help a lot.

Cheers guys, at this point will try anything so bananas and tonic water for dinner then - no gin though!
