Is it normal for me to smell stronger than usual while pregnant... you know... down there?

My DP has noticed it and even I have noticed it. It is not so horrendous that someone sitting next to me on the tube or bus could smell, but it is noticeable when being intimate or very early in the morning before I have a shower.

Is it hormones causing this or something to do with pregnancy?

Wondering if I should get checked. There is definitely no chance I could have an STD as have been with my partner exclusively for years and see no signs of thrush or anything along those lines.

Wanted to try asking here before embarrassingly asking my midwife or GP Blush

I always get a bit niffier. Seems to sort itself out afterwards. HTH Grin

I wonder if it's one of those automatic things to put off trying to reproduce again whilst pg? Ie, for the 'safety' of the child? Like lions etc don't give off any come hither smells whilst they have a litter.

CBear6 · 15/05/2011 08:20

It's discharge that makes the smell and pregnancy has increased discharge so it's likely that this is what's causing it - the glamorous side of being a mum to be! - it would still be worth getting checked out though just to make sure there's no infection there.

Oooh, interesting theory buttonmoon! I'm a total evolution/anthropology nerd.

buttonmoon78 · 15/05/2011 08:29

I'm not, but being part of the natural world it's, erm, natural to assume that we're part of everything else that happens IYSWIM? And I know it happens a lot in other species.

Likely to be pg related but wouldn't hurt to get checked - don't be embarassed to speak to your mw, that's what she's there for...and believe me she will have seen it all before (and some)

jasmine51 · 15/05/2011 10:20

I would say it is normal but yes do get it checked - DH has commented a few times, its not unpleasant, just different.

LDNmummy · 15/05/2011 11:07

Good theory buttonmoon Grin

My DP has commented a few times too Jasmine, thats how I first realised.

Ah yes the wonders of pregnancy, something new everyday. I will definitely talk to my MW, I usually have no problem talking to a gyno, don't know why I feel weird about telling my MW.

Thanks ladies!!
