My midwife keeps saying that only 5% of babies are born on their due date. Hardly surprising (or useful), since babies at considered 'at term' at 37 weeks, and can be overdue by 2 weeks before doctors want to induce. In that time window of 5 weeks (35 days), pure statistical probability would say the chances of the baby being born on any given day would be about 2.8%
I wonder if anyone has come across any stats showing (especially for first time mothers) what % are born within a day, 3 days, a week before or after their due date (sort of a bell curve type thing)?
