I've just gone to work in odd shoes - tell me I'm not alone in baby brain madness....

They're not close to looking similar. One is brown with a 1.5 inch kitten heel, the other is pink and flat.

They even sound different - the brown one goes 'click' and the pink one goes 'clump'.

How could I walk to my car, drive to the station, board a train and still not notice until a nosey helpful stranger pointed it out?

Tell me I'm not alone....

I am still affected by it nearly 6 months after having baby. The other week I went to my clarinet lesson without my clarinet and 2 days ago I left my food shopping in the car park. In fact pregnancy is a good warm-up to being a mother.

titferbrains · 14/05/2011 11:55

Happened Fter baby was born but my favourite doh! Moment was when was at a friend's for lunch and looked up from eating in a blind panic and said "where's the baby?" while scanning room. Said baby was attached to my boob Hmm

MirandaGoshawk · 14/05/2011 15:09

I was at work, lunchtime came & I couldn't find my brolly - must've left it on the bus, so I trailed, in the rain, up the hill (hard work!) & across town to the bus staion. Had to go into the drivers' canteen to find 'my' driver, endured their comments (I was expecting twins & huge). No brolly. Went back to work, soaked. Got sandwiches out of fridge. There was the brolly.

MirandaGoshawk · 14/05/2011 15:13

I well remember being pg & not being able to think of perfectly ordinary words, such as having to say 'that big metal tower thing in Paris'. But the bad news is, 17 years on, that kind of thing still happens - I'm still waiting for brain to get back to 'normal'! Yesterday I said to someone "It's the squeaky oil that gets the wheel" WTF?

Bumperlicioso · 14/05/2011 15:27

One thing I have noticed is that I lose all ability to park as soon as I am pg!

licoriceGreen · 14/05/2011 15:45

I cleaned the inside if my car the other day, threw away all the annoying bits of paper in there including my current tax disk!

licoriceGreen · 14/05/2011 16:00

Oh and I spent this noting at a chocolate making course, made some lovely moulded chocolates, just nipped in the kitchen and realised I put them on the oven, oh and of course I turned it on so I now have a lovely bag of melted chocolate :(

licoriceGreen · 14/05/2011 16:02

Morning not noting

Just to throw a spanner in the works ....

My brain actually works much better when I'm pregnant.

I have attention deficit tendencies and all those wonderful pregnancy hormones worked wonders. I felt fabulous. So alert and on top of the game. And I got on so well with everyone throughout my two pregnancies. Apart from the morning sickness at the beginning I loved it

Anyone else find something similar ?

threeshoesonesock · 14/05/2011 18:26

I did once go into work for my early shift on an acute psychiatric ward at 7pm in the evening after a little nap in the afternoon Blush
( But I wasn't pregnant )

Luckily they didn't even think about admitting me, just gave me a nice cup of tea and sent me home for a good night's sleep Grin

< worried I've killed off a good thread emoticon >

< as you were ! >

threeshoesonesock · 14/05/2011 18:29

Oh yes, I've just name changed for added privacy.
Anyone who knows me by the old name just think "juggling with three shoes"
Actually I might change it to that !

Miranda I am having trouble of thinking of words, could not for the life of me get out the word 'wheelbarrow' today. They usually come to me about 30 seconds after I started searching my brain for them. Not good.

SuperheroYuki · 14/05/2011 20:23

At airport trying to have polite jovial conversation with someone:

'you know..those people..the men..on the plane...not terrorists..the other ones..like taxi drivers..but for planes...PILOTS! I MEAN PILOTS'

Talking to DH : 'like armchairs..for children..but in a car..like a seat on top of a seat..'
DH -'um..carseat'
me - 'YES THAT!'

MooseyMoo · 14/05/2011 20:57

I come out with the weirdest comments. Best so far...

Are you ready to go football training?

We were going to go car shopping...My DH does not play football, let alone train. No reason why that popped into my head Hmm

Silliest moment when pregnant with DD1, I moisturised my stomach every morning and then my face. Went to check my face in the mirror and ricocheted off the mirror as my stomach had suddenly got bigger overnight. Left a nice smudge on the mirror which I left for a while as it made me smile.

I did get wedged between the bookcase and chair as forgot how large I was. Bizarrely if I walked past someone in the office I would suck my stomach in. I was 32 weeks pregnant, nothing was going to make that stomach smaller!

Bellared · 14/05/2011 21:31

I love this thread. I had a moment on Thursday dropping DS off a nursery. I put my combats on back to front (20wks p with DC2). I can't get words out either. I've had continuous baby brain for the last 3 yrs.

Keep up the brill tales!

SoloIsAHotCougar · 14/05/2011 21:34

I got Ds up for school one morning (during year one), having overslept...rushing him to clean his teeth, my brain suddenly clicks into the calender mode and it dawns on me that it is in fact Saturday...was not pg either...

A year or so after the above incident, I got Ds ready for school, drove up the road before the main road where the school is thinking 'blimey, it's quiet this morning,' didn't see the lollypop lady, got Ds to drop down into his seat so that no one would see him and know my mistake! it was the holidays! still wasn't pg...just residual baby brain Hmm

karenviolin · 15/05/2011 00:15

I went out for lunch in my pink slippers. didn't realise until we arrived and went to get out the car. Definitely baby brain has set in!

Borisneedsahaircut · 15/05/2011 09:36

Havent done as badly as you yet but I do go shopping and just sort of stad in the middle of the aisle completely lost as to what to buy, or looking at two different packs of sausages for about half an hour!

MrsSatsuma · 15/05/2011 10:21

Oh heck... I do that Boris and I've never been been pregnant...

apricotears · 15/05/2011 10:49

Saw a pack of underwear on sale at the store the other day. I thought brilliant; I need some more. Came home, ripped them open and began unfolding what looked like bed sheets. DH was in the room and his exact words were 'WTF are they?' Looking at the packet, realised I had purchased size 22-24 in in Bridget Jones 'big' pants style! Shock I am a size 8... DH asked how I managed to pick up that size; I replied 'I didn't even look at the size, I just picked up the first packet I saw...' Because that's what you do Hmm

eekwhatsgoingon · 15/05/2011 11:08

i went round to a friends yesterday and took a gift, but when it was time to leave, I picked up my handbag and the gift and went home! So embarassed! I'm only 10 weeks and haven't told people yet, so couldn't even explain the reason why I was so dappy when I phoned to apologise!

theillustratedmum · 15/05/2011 15:21

I love this thread, I just hope none of you do what I do and attempt to put dirty nappies in the fridge.

Kathsmum · 15/05/2011 23:18

Lost count of the number times I have walked out of shops leaving card in machine after paying! Still do it, she's 3. Swear it didn't start till I was preggers.

julesgee · 16/05/2011 01:00
