I've just gone to work in odd shoes - tell me I'm not alone in baby brain madness....

They're not close to looking similar. One is brown with a 1.5 inch kitten heel, the other is pink and flat.

They even sound different - the brown one goes 'click' and the pink one goes 'clump'.

How could I walk to my car, drive to the station, board a train and still not notice until a nosey helpful stranger pointed it out?

Tell me I'm not alone....

Don't worry. When the baby arrives, what you've lost in brain power you'll make up for in lightning reflexes.

AttillaTheMum · 13/05/2011 13:24

DD is 9 months and I am 22 weeks pg with number 2.
I dont think I ever lost the baby brain and am sure that falling pg again has compounded it.
I went to asda last week and left my car keys on the self service till. Went back in when i couldnt find my keys, claimed them at the customer service desk and walked off leaving my purse on the desk!!!

rachyaimeelou · 13/05/2011 13:30

Ha u are soooo not alone there honey, im 31 weeks and for days i cannot seem to get my brain to function, weds i knew i had things to do but for some reason felt totally blank, like jonny 5 out of short circuit,i even called my daughter mummy??? while at work, customers ask me for one thing n i give them something totally different, even my nesting wont kick in and its doin my nut in lol xx

onesuzymac · 13/05/2011 13:51

This is great, glad I'm a) laughing and b) not alone :) Only 21 weeks so much more fun to come Hmm

I drove all the way to work convinced I'd left my phone there, no sign of it, opened my handbag to find a pen to write a note for people, only to see the (still silenced) phone staring up at me!

Tried to drive to work without my glasses and in my slippers - only when I got to the junction at the end of the street and realised I couldn't see the other cars that I returned home, thankfully DH there to set me right...

Made oat-and-raisin cookies without the oats...they did not taste good.

glitternanny · 13/05/2011 13:54

Lol!!!!

getafreshgrip · 13/05/2011 14:14

I think the most awkward moments are when you have been teaching DC to count, walk down stairs in a public place and realise that you have counted all of the stairs out loud. And point out cows in the fields to a train carriage full of people - none of whom are your children.

LDNmummy · 13/05/2011 14:17

Mine has just really kicked in at 5 months. It is soooooo annoying Angry

Suppose I will look back on it and laugh later in life Grin

LouisaJF · 13/05/2011 14:31

I went to the supermarket and put my car keys in my pocket. I did my shopping, got back in the car and half way down the road panicked because I couldn't feel the keys in my pocket. I even pulled over to look for them, only to discover the keys were in the ignition of the car I was driving!

crazychic141187 · 13/05/2011 14:46

I was in uni having a conversation with my lecturer and just totally forgot what i was talking about! He asked me what i was going to say and i was like "erm i cant rememeber what the conversation is about!"

girlfromdownsouth · 13/05/2011 14:48

LouisaJF ROFL - Thanks for making my day!!

BlueCrane · 13/05/2011 14:50

This thread has really cheered me up and made me Smile am 10 weeks today with DC1 and already feel my brain has lost many of it's cells!! Remembering dates and what day things are supposed to happen seems to be my worst thing at the moment though am sure there's worse to come!

ragdollismyname · 13/05/2011 15:11

This thread has made me feel so much better, i just feel like im wading through treacle trying to get through the day without doing something daft!! went to soft play today with dd, we met our friends there, it was only when i'd been clambering about for ages that i realised id put a very low cut going out style top on instead of normal t-shirt style top. Had to apologise to my friend that i kept flashing her!!!! Then as we were leaving she was beeping and flashing her lights at me, i just waved and drove off, thinking 'this car feels funny'. When i got home, my friend rang to tell me i had a totally flat tyre. I'm just a dope at the minute, wonder how i'll cope with two children!!!

coldcomfortHeart · 13/05/2011 15:28

It's my vocabulary that has disappeared this time... constantly finding myself lost for words and sounding like a complete idiot

Have done the slippers thing twice when not pregnant, did a shop once in the local coop and made it half way to the underground the next time, so I make a concerted effort to remember to put (matching!) shoes on when I leave the house!

Driving ones are terrifying me, only just passed and am terrible/forgetful at the best of times

thegingerone · 13/05/2011 15:57

I've done loads and loads in both my previous pgs. Unfortuanately I can't remember a single one as I'm now 13 weeks with no 3. I remember talking to mates about things I've done, but now my mind is blank. Blush

cuppateaanyone · 13/05/2011 15:58

I was with a friend paying for coffee and holding a 10p piece in my hand I asked 'ooohh are these still legal tender?'

Jenmummy · 13/05/2011 17:16

LouisaJF - am crying with laughter!!!! Am am the dopiest mare on the planet at the mo - 33 weeks gone, 2 dc's, part-time job and V understanding dh... You put the washing in the bin yet??? Looked for glasses that are on your face already???

Bumpsadaisie · 13/05/2011 18:34

I thought I'd remained remarkably compos mentis this time round (now 17 weeks) after some spectacularly stupid moments when expecting DD1.

That was until Tuesday morning, when I put mango chutney on DD's and my toast, thinking it was marmalade.

DD scoffed it up and it didn't even click with me until my last mouthful when I thought "this is quite perky marmalade". I then looked at the jar, quite clearly marked "Waitrose Mango Chutney".

To add insult to injury the fact that it was bought in Waitrose means it must date from when we lived down south (over three years ago ...)

Bleurghh.

Mizza76 · 13/05/2011 18:42

Just remembered my worst baby-brain moment: throwing out our airline tickets the night before we were due to fly (before etickets). After big panic my hubbie retrieved them from the bin 5 minutes before we left the house...

Shock and Grin @ secondcoming

I went to work in odd shoes last week but at least they were both black. ONe was too small for me though but it's nowhere near as good as fanjo out in public!

feralgirl · 13/05/2011 19:26

Oh and I left the nappy bag in the middle of the nursery car park a couple of weeks ago and then had to drive all the way back to get it.

Trinaluce · 13/05/2011 20:13

LouisaJF Oh thank god I thought it was just me!

Pregnant with DD, I was driving home from picking up a chinese takeaway when I turned to DH and asked if I'd left my car keys on the counter. The keys that I'd used to start the car...

This time round my vocabulary is shot to hell, and just this week I got proof that baby brain is making itself comfortable. Had been round the safari park with DD & DSis and was wanting to find out DSis's train times so we could decide whether to head straight for the station or go and have a coffee first. She picks up her mobile and declares she can't get onto the site she uses for her tickets as she's got no signal.

I asked if there's a number she could ring instead >>smacks forehead emoticon

Lanabug · 13/05/2011 20:40

Brilliant thread! My brain has completely melted this last week (now 20 wks) and was same in first pregnancy - nearly ended up a single mum after polishing my DH's treasured brand new TV with oven cleaner.

WiiUnfit · 13/05/2011 22:57

I had a job interview at 20 weeks (thankfully for an internal post), I spent the whole time going "ermm... the erm... ermmm..." I couldn't remember any words I was trying to use or even what I was answering! Hmm

Now 33+4 & have spent the last two days on various puzzle books (signed off work due to high bp!) The process is as follows: start an arrowword, do about 6 easy answers, go completely blank, start a new arrowword... Grin

MelanieWiggles · 14/05/2011 08:36

I put cleanser on my toothbrush yesterday

And regularly put formula on my weetabix after I had DS. Sometimes I even ate it.
