Did I have a MC?

So I'm 35 weeks today and no surprises my brain is dwelling somewhat on babies and pregnency. I couldn't sleep last night and was thinking about before I was PG. We had been TTC for quite a while, I have PCOS so we thought it would be very hard without medical help, but it all worked on it's own in the end. I didn't find out I was PG until 20 weeks due to the PCOS (wasn't expecting a period). My previous period gap was 4 months and at the end of it I bled quite heavily for almost 3 weeks, Last night I was wondering if that was a MC or just a heavy period becuase I hadn't had one for so long. Even when i'm regular I tend to have a heavy flow. What do you think?

Joanne no one can tell you for sure and I'm certainly no medical expert but I didn't want you to go unanswered.

I don't think you could have been 4 months pregnant, because to miscarry a 4 month foetus would have been a lot more physically traumatic than a heavy period. If you'd ovulated and conceived in the weeks before your bleed, it is certainly possible at least in theory that it could have been a very early miscarriage (a chemical pregnancy) as these can be like a very heavy period for some women. Alternatively (and maybe most likely) it was just a particularly heavy period. To have been an early MC you would essentially have to have conceived two cycles in a row, which would be good going for any woman, let alone taking your long cycles and uncertain ovulation timing (due to the PCOS) into account!

For what it's worth, I certainly don't think you should fret about it being a MC as it seems very unlikely to have been.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck for the last few weeks! Enjoy your little one when he/she arrives Grin

Thanks Wombat, what you say makes sense. I think i just need to put it out of my mind and concentrate on the last little bit of the pg. And I suppose it doesn't really make any difference anyway.

It is possible to conceive two cycles in a row, a had a chemical pregnancy, followed by being pregnant again. All seems to be well this time at 13 weeks. You will likely never know if you miscarried, and I would try not to worry about it. In the past, before home pregnancy tests, women wouldn't really know until they were quite far in. At least that way they didn't worry about what might have been. Good luck with the last few weeks of pregnancy!
