Ok I am probably going to sound like a right whinger, as I have already mentioned this in my antenatal group but im wondering if the frequency of Midwofe appointments varies across the country ?

I am 30 weeks today Grin and had my last MW appt at 28 weeks. She then said she woould see me again at 36 weeks. This seems like a massive gap ?

Im not suggesting I be seen weekly or anything but im just worried, what if my baby is breech at 36 weeks or my blood pressure goes up in the meantime ? How would i know ?

I know this is baby number 3 for me but I havent been pregnant since 2003 so I have sort of forgotten everything lol.

Oh and to top it off I keep feeling really dizzy and just sort of odd. I get goose bumps, feel really sick and have to lie down till it passes. Im not usually a wuss and Im still working fulltime, I would just like to be able to talk to a MW about it to be honest.

Hi, not sure if this is different as I'm seen at the hospital ante natal as joint care but they told me fortnightly from mid 20's til 36 wks then weekly. Does sound a big gap to me though as well,so think I'd also be asking the question.

Not there yet, but the list they have put in my notes is 28, 34, 36, 38, 41, 42.
This is my 3rd too.

Isthreetoomany · 11/05/2011 16:13

I am also pregnant with no 3. My notes say I will be seen at 28, 31,34, 36, 38, 41, 42.
If you are worried I'm sure you could contact the midwife and have a chat on the phone and explain you would like to see her.

Are you under shared care? Is there meant to be a GP appointment in the middle?

natwebb79 · 11/05/2011 17:42

I'm 16 weeks and my next appointment with the midwife is at 24 weeks. It seems to be every 8 weeks at the moment.

Milliemuffin · 11/05/2011 17:58

My last appt was at 28 weeks and I'm not due to see her again until 34 weeks and then it's every 2 weeks after that. I saw her at 16 weeks then had a scan at 20 and then had to wait another 8 weeks! Does sound a bit crazy but then not alot happens at my appointments. Blood pressure and urine test then bloods taken at 28 weeks so I'm not missing out on much but I agree it is a long time between appointments, especially for first timers or people with concerns. This is my third so I'm a bit more relaxed this time round. If you do have any concerns though I'm sure she wouldn't mind you making an appt.

This is my third and I last saw the mw at 28 weeks then next appointment is 34 weeks, I was told that if it isn't your first and you are "normal" they don't have as many appointments. My midwife however is brilliant and if I have any issues I can text or call her and she will answer and tell me what she thinks that I should be doing. Third timers are supposed to be old hats at this I think. My children are 3 and 21 months and I still can't remember feeling like I do now. I would say to contact your midwife or FAU if you have any concerns, they are generally very helpful.

I have the guidelines in my maternity notes and you should have one at 34 weeks before that.

I'm at the had the 16 week and not due another till 28 weeks as it's my second but my midwife said it's a long time and I could make an appointment earlier if I wanted.

I just always assumed they were the regular appointments and with any concerns we could just make an extra appointment. Also if there's any problems there's a hospital number to ring as well if you're over 20 or something weeks.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 11/05/2011 20:50

My last 2 appts were at 28 wks and 34 weeks (yest, all good Grin) now my next appt isn't until 37 weeks. According to my notes it should have gone 28, 32, 36, 38... I get the feeling that there just aren't the resources locally to stick to this.

If you aren't feeling right you can (and should) call the MW to get yourself checked out.

buttonmoon78 · 11/05/2011 20:58

Are you whinging inbetweener? Wink

TBH, I was really surprised that mine are now 3 weekly. I was expecting 28 then 34.

If your baby is breech then a) you'd probably know and therefore be asking questions and b) they won't 'do' anything til 36 weeks anyway. They would then do a positional scan, offer you ecv at 37wks and book for a section at 38-9wks.

If you're feeling dodgy get thee to a medical professional of some sort. I keep thinking 'oh it's ok, I'm 28wks now' but recent high profile losses keep stopping that thought in it's tracks.

It's just not worth messing around with.

And if you want another appointment, ask for one, for reassurance. I was in your shoes last time - a long gap. So much had been forgotten and so much had changed. I was v lucky and had an excellent MW for whom nothing was too much trouble. I nearly cheered when I found out it was going to be her again!

Hope you feel better soon.
