second, it is easy for me to say but stop worrying!

i hope someone who knows more than me can help allay your fears a lot better than me Smile

Congratulations pinky53
None at all from what I was told. I'm 39 and pregnant with 'bonus' baby number 3 (due Aug) and was told there are no particular risks to either baby or me. I was really, really worried about all the tests I thought I would need but had a NHS nuchal fold test and blood screening at 12 weeks and all was fine and was told I wouldn't be offered invasive tests on the NHS even if I was 49 unless the 12-week screening showed an increased risk. This pregnancy hasn't been any harder than my other two and have been classed as low-risk.
Take care of yourself and talk to your GP/midwife if you're worried...otherwise just enjoy.

I'm 37 and currently 30 weeks pregnant with number 3.
I have 2 dd's aged 7 and 8.

I'm not sure what to tell you about the risks and not sure what tests you are referring to ? But my 12 week scan results came back pretty healthy I think. My Downs risk was one in 2000 and something and so far touchwood everything has been ok.

The only thing I have found is that at ageed 28 and 30 when I had my first two I had much more energy and seemed to handle it much better. This time I have had morning sickness, constant tiredness and now my back is hurting a LOT. I am very slow and get breathless very quickly. So I guess the downside for me has been the effect on my aged body lol.

Congratulations! Plenty of wonen are having babies at our age, I'm 37 and 35 weeks pregnant with no 2. I had mmc last year with unplanned pg but this one was planned. I don't think the mmc was anything to do with my age just an unfortuante and sad occurrence. Midwife and dr have both said there aren't really any increased risks if you're healthy and fit normally. Had OSCAR done privately at 13 weeks and showed as lowest possible risk category for Edwards and Downs. Good luck with everything x

I'm 37 next months and had dd3 (12 weeks) ago, I had no tests done, just 12 and 20 weeks scan. I'm in NI and nuchal scans aren't done as a matter of course so I didn't bother. I have a 5 and 3 year old and while I was very sick in this pregnancy, the birth was easier, quicker and I was up and about very quickly. She is an absolute joy and has just slotted right in, I seem to be really relaxed even though the other two are still very young. I have really enjoyed these first few months and am really happy I made the decision to have a third, good luck

I was pg with my first baby at 37. Now pg with my third at 40. No problems so far! Would recommend getting nuchal scan privately if Downs concerns you. Other than that, just relax and enjoy!

SoloIsAHotCougar · 11/05/2011 11:39

I had Dd at almost 43, no tests except blood test and scans (both private and NHS). She was my 5th pg, but only my 2nd full term; my Ds is 12.9 now and I had him at 34. No real problems during pg and if my life were different and I was able to, there'd have been a 3rd live baby in my life and I'd have probably been much older too.

Hi pinky and congratulations! i'm the same! i was offered the usual bloods at 16weeks but paid for a private nuchal scan and bloods before that as i MC last year and was nervous about an amnio. All was well and i came back as low risk. Got my 20wk scan and am very nervous about that, but then i'm just a constant worrier! Good luck with the pregnancy and enjoy!

Isthreetoomany · 11/05/2011 16:18

Congratulations. I had my first booking appt with midwife recently and am now a bit older than I was with my first two so specifically asked if I would need any extra tests this time round. She told me that it is just the usual testing, she said any extra testing would usually only kick in after 40 years.

SoloIsAHotCougar · 12/05/2011 00:14

I wasn't offered anything extra over and above the scans. The only reason I had a blood test was because I went for private scans and they did bloods as part of the service. I wouldn't have had an amnio or CVS if I'd been offered them anyway, but I was over 40 and not offered them. I suppose I must've been low risk based on the scan and bloods results.
