Hi... so just been confirmed I'm due 10th (ish) of January and would love to get chatting to some others in the same area who are also expecting... As I said In the title that includes those of you due late 2011, as well - it's a very inclusive thread - as long as you'd be able to make some meet ups in Oxfordshire and you're going through some stage of reproduction then you'd be welcome :-)

I know there's at least one more of you out there (ghost - you there?)

Stats time:

MakesCakesWhenStressed - expecting #1 EDD 10 Jan 2012

Hi everyone! Please can I join this group/thread? I'm 13 weeks pregnant with my first and due the 28 December. Just turned 35 and finishing up a Masters at the moment (although I've totally lost incentive since becoming pregnant!), so I have a lot of free time and it would be great to meet up with other mums to be in Oxford if anyone felt like it. I live just north of Oxford on the way to Bicester but we're hoping to move more central sometime soon as it's quite a little village where we are and feels a bit lonely sometimes!
Looking forward to chatting...

ghosteditor · 27/06/2011 09:21

hi Juno welcome to the thread! It's always good to see new members. What's your masters - and dare I ask how long you have left?

Hope you've had a chance to enjoy this fabulous weather. I'm actually glad to be at work this morning as I work in what is usually a freezing cold building. Today it's a much more tolerable temperature than my house!

Stephfa · 27/06/2011 16:44

Hi Juno, another possible Christmas baby! I know what you mean about losing motivation, it's my first pregnancy too and it's all I can think about most of the time! I think there are several of us here who are interested in meeting at some point.

chocolatehobnobs · 27/06/2011 19:21

Hello everyone, I'm due with DC 1 on 30th October and live near Thame. Am I too far on to join? Would also be pleased to make some new mum friends as I will be working away until October and won't be able to do NCT classes. Hi Penguin - nice to see you here too and to hear that you and DH will be around the JR in Headington. Finding accomodation is really easy as there are lots of people moving and renting especially in August as all the doctors change over.
I suddenly feel that it was so long ago (2 months) that I had a tiny bump and was having my first scan at the JR. PS Mr Impey is amazing and does a really good private scan clinic if any of you can't get an NHS scan when you need it. They couldn't fit me in at JR or SMH until 14 weeks!

ghosteditor · 28/06/2011 10:09

Hey ladies,

Sooooo tired today - I played a match last night which was quite hard work in the heat, and it's been a while since I've had a proper run around. Am enjoying it while I can, but I feel pretty wiped out this morning. I'm grateful that I at least feel well enough to do this kind of thing, though; not everyone is so lucky at 11 weeks!

chocolatehobnobs you're more than welcome to join the list and in fact I think a couple of our members are from the south side of Oxford so Thame may not be too far. I should let you know that there's a 2011 thread running for Oxford babies too which I think is more active with meet ups than we are at the moment - you should be able to search for it.

I'm being scanned at the JR next week - can't wait! Grin

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 28/06/2011 10:47

Hi hobnobs! I occasionally go to Thame for work, but actually live about half an hour away. We're trying to organise a meet up, but finding somewhere that suits everyone is the difficulty. Ideally I'd like to avoid the centre of Oxford as it's so expensive to get there or park there, but don't really know of any other options.

So glad the weather is a bit cooler today - nothing like heat to really exacerbate the nausea! Roll on 2nd trimester! Got my scan tomorrow and am getting very excited! Anything I should ask them while I'm there?

I hit 12 weeks on Thursday - also getting excited about doing the Facebook announcement and telling the wider family :-) Just keeping my fingers tightly crossed atm after some of the 11 week miscarriages I've heard about recently.

Hi everyone! Thanks! It's nice reading how everyone else is getting on with their pregnancies too. Cakes, hope the scan went well!

Littlepic · 29/06/2011 16:10

Good luck with your scan cakes I'm sure everything will be fine.

I also live in south Oxfordshire but in Uffington, which isn't really near Thame. Would like to meet up with some people if possible as don't have any other pregnant friends in the area

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 30/06/2011 12:07

Scan was amazing - now we've reached 12 weeks it's like I've let myself go and allowed myself to really believe I'm pregnant - overcome with emotion. I am so happy and excited, I have the hugest grin on my face and have done since yesterday - oh yeah - and had my first nausea free day yesterday! Long may it last!

How are you all doing?

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 30/06/2011 13:41

oh that awesome, I'm so pleased for you cakes! Did they confirm your EDD?

I bet you're grinning like a loon!

Update from me - my parents have decided to visit this weekend so I think I've decided to let them know, even though the scan isn't until Tuesday. Now I have to MTFU be brave and tell them they're going to be grandparents!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 30/06/2011 15:24

It's not that scary Ghost! I felt a bit like a recalcitrant 16 year I have to admit, but they were thrilled. It'll go absolutely fine - but come and freak out here if you want to!

EDD was confirmed at 12 Jan I think - but they basically confirmed I was exactly the date I thought I was - 12+0 today. Good to know I was so accurate ;-)

Enjoy your scan - it's amazing!

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 30/06/2011 16:28

I know, I know, but it really does feel all illicit and stuff - left over from all those years thinking that being pg would be a bad idea. My parents are only 50 so I'm a bit worried that they'll decide they're too young to be grandparents

(though my youngest grandparent was 43 when I was born Hmm )

I'm 11+4 today by my count. Can't wait!

Rollersara · 02/07/2011 05:58

Hello, I'd like to join too! I live jusr outside Oxford in Wheatley and am due to have my first in late Feb 2012. Currently very nervous, and slightly nauseous but excited!

ghosteditor · 02/07/2011 09:23

Hi rollersara - congratulations and welcome to the list! Guess you must be at about 6 or 7 weeks right now, hope you're not suffering too much! I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and waiting on my scan next week - also very nervous!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 02/07/2011 18:29

Welcome to the thread rollersara! Is this your first?

OP posts:
Rollersara · 02/07/2011 19:16

Hi ghost, cakes, yes, this is my first, just coming up to 7 weeks! Not really suffering, just a vague background feeling of nausea!

Don't think I'll really believe it's happening till the scan, hope it all goes well for you!

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 03/07/2011 14:06

Yup - 7 weeks was when my nausea kicked in too - eat little snacks every hour or two if you can, seemed to be the only way to keep it under control :-)

The scan was amazing - really exciting, but the sense of 'it's real' is wearing off again now! I probably won't really believe it till I'm handed a baby :-)

I wanted to report back that showing off bump at reunion was definitely the right thing to do - thanks for the advice! I am quite big already and it is best to dress in such a way that minimises ambiguity over whether it's a preg bump or general weight gain.

Also good luck to everyone waiting for scans. That 12 week milestone is a big one. My next is 4 August (21 weeks), that's the one where you can find out sex of babies if you want to....

ghosteditor · 04/07/2011 10:29

good to know stephfa thanks!

My mum told me last night that she didn't show with me until she was almost 7 months along Envy - to which I had to say, yes mum, but you were 23 and a size eight, whereas I have a bit more of my dad's build going on! I am definitely struggling with trousers etc, must get one of those bump bands or whatever they're called.

I went into Oxford on Saturday in an attempt to find maternity clothes (even if I'm not bump-y enough to wear them yet!) - was peeved but not surprised to find out that there's no where in Oxford that does maternity clothes. I couldn't find a maternity stand in Debenhams, M&S, topshop, DP, Next, or anywhere else. And I asked in most places and they said that they only have them online, as if that's any use. However I happened to go past a brand new JoJoMamanBebe in Summertown on my way home which was very exciting! They seem quite reasonably priced and had a sale, so I got some black work trousers for £14.50 - will be great for winter, even if they're too big now! They had kids clothes and nursing tops/bras etc too which is useful to know about in future. Any other suggestions? I'm suuuuper picky about clothes so really prefer to try things on rather than order from websites. Any suggestions gratefully received...

Reallea · 04/07/2011 12:28

Hello ladies, I am 4+4 with #2 and live near abingdon. had #1 at JR. Very excited to be in the family way again! am due march 8th.

Ghost editor, Oxford is RUBBISH for maternity clothes, I only found mothercare in the retail park that sold them and they are terrible quality, they shrink in the wash, lose their shape, come unravelled etc. Will not buy from them again. But I discovered you can get to Birmingham really easy on the train and if you go on the first great western website and buy the tickets a couple of days in advance it's really cheap. Then the train basically arrives right in the middle of the shopping centre and there is a gap with maternity, mamas and papas, House of Fraser with maternity, h+m with maternity. Also I would recommend Isabella Oliver clothes available online (or second hand on eBay as the quality is so good there is a roaring business in second hand isabella oliver clothes). you can always send them back if they are not right.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 04/07/2011 14:57

Ghost - I've heard that about oxford from other people. I'm planning a little trip to reading when the time comes - it's about the same distance away for me as Oxford. Birmingham is great for shopping, but exhausting to go around - it's enorrrrrrrrrmous!

I've been putting off maternity clothes shopping - bizarrely it feells far more jinxy to me than buying things for the baby, stoopid, huh? It's not like I have work to worry about or anything, so I'm making do with my larger summer clothes atm, though will have to succumb to new jeans and suchlike fairly soon!

ASOS have lots of stuff cheap and Debenhams too. Will no doubt be tearing my hair out for my cousin's wedding in December when I'll be 8 months and super-huge!

OP posts:
Reallea · 04/07/2011 15:09

Meant to say you can always send Isabella Oliver clothes bought on their website back, not eBay ones!

ghosteditor · 04/07/2011 16:42

realla thanks for the tip (and welcome to the list). I have friends in Brum so that's definitely an option. In the last couple of years I've been doing any crucial clothes shopping at the oracle in Reading - there used to be a direct train from my local station for about £10. Sadly now it seems to be three trains and a lot more money so have only done the journey in a car of late.

Am peeved that there aren't many clothes options though! I'd much rather be in size 10 maternity than size 14 high street (I'm a 12 at the moment in most places...) In fact I would definitely pay for the privilege! I know what you mean about jinxing things cakes but I don't really have a choice as I have to be smart for work but also have to sit down all day and can't abide having things cutting into my belly.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 04/07/2011 17:34

Yes - I've found things are cutting in a bit too - but I have the good fortune to be able to sit around with my waistband undone! :-)

Aah, those are really useful tips everyone, I am quite new to Oxford and in need of shopping education. Especially happy about the JoJo Maman Baby shop, I love their catalogue and had no idea we had our very own.

I have a shelf at the bottom of my wardrobe where trousers get added when they are no longer wearable, I think I am on the brink of losing favourite jeans and most-worn work trousers to The Shelf.
