Amby hammock mattress help please!

We've got a second hand Amby for new arrival but I'm having a nightmare tracking down a new mattress for it.
The proper Amby ones seem to be out of stock everywhere and although my local baby store does made to measure mattresses they said they can't make one to the depth of the Amby as it wouldn't comply with regulations - the Amby hammock is 3.5cm deep but they say it has to be a miniumum of 5cm.
Does anyone know if a 5cm mattress would work in the Amby? I'm quite sure it wouldn't fit in the protector we've got anyway.
I've seen replacement mattresses on Ebay but they're 4cm deep so if these 'regulations' do exist - they don't comply either!
Anyone have any experience of this or advice?

No advice, but I used a second hand amby (albeit from a known friend) and didn't even think about getting a new mattress Blush

i would use the original mattress. just air it out on a sunny day.

Yes, that's what we've done.

I used the mattress that came with it. Air it out on the line for a day and wash the covers well.

Hello

I have also bought a second hand Amby on ebay and am just steam cleaning the mattress that came with it, as it's in excellent condition.

However, I have bought a support wedge from this company, who also sell mattresses which they state comply with government regulations:

www.ambyhammock.co.uk/

After looking at various bits of research and speaking to my midwife, we decided to stick with the existing mattress - we were told that positioning of the baby was the most important thing and as long as the mattress was in good condition, it would be fine.

I've also just ordered from:

www.ambyhammock.co.uk/

including a new mattress. I wanted to have a spare set of the fabric bits and they do one that includes a mattress. Hasn't been delivered yet, but it was dispatched quickly, I'll let you know how it goes! Amby mattresses can be washed on a cold cycle, I don't know if you could do that instead?

Thanks for all the advice - unfortunately no mattress came with it. I wasn't all that bothered when I bought it as I was planning on getting a replacement anyway.
The replacement (Babywise) mattress on the Amby website seems to be a different size to the one specified with the Amby as a package. Has anyone actually bought and received this mattress?

I meant to ask if anybody has received the babywise replacement if it actually fits? - it's about 10cm shorter and 3 cm wider than the original

My parcel from the amby hammock site came. I had ordered the replacement set, so it is the hammock bit and mattress. It is the actual Amby brand, so you could order this? However, I'm sure that the mattress looks longer and thinner than the one I've already got! I wonder if Amby changed the measurements at some stage?

MainlyMaynie · 11/05/2011 18:22

Ignore that, I just measured and they're identical!

I am in exactly the same position! I emailed amby.co.uk at the weekend and they replied yesterday to say that they will have the mattresses available from today on their website again - yep just checked and it is there. This must surely be the correct one to go with the Amby nature's nest??

MainlyMaynie · 11/05/2011 18:43

Looks like it to me ohbabybaby.

I have another question while all the Amby users are around! Are you washing the hammock and mattress before using it?

laurieleigh · 15/05/2011 18:25

I was looking on the www.ambyhammock.co.uk website (with the babywise replacement mattress), but have just found the proper www.amby.co.uk website and have ordered the mattress from there so fingers crossed that it's the proper Amby one.

as for the washing of the hammock, I hadn't even thought about that - it was supposedly washed before we got it and certainly looks and smells like it was.
I wasn't planning to wash it again as baby doesn't actually come into contact with it (was just planning on washing the mattress covers and sheets) - not sure now though!
