I know this has been done before, but I can't find anything that quite fits my dilemma!

Ok:
SIster's wedding in 6 weeks. I will be 20 weeks with DC2. Last time, I could still fit into size 12 vaguely floaty dresses at 20 weeks cos I barely showed. THis time I've grown between 13 and 14 weeks.

Basically, when should I shop? Any second (or more) timers remember how much they grew in 6 weeks?

I'm 5'9 and, up unitl yesterday, was 32E. Boobs have suddenly put on a growth spurt too and put me all ina tizz. Body was nice and text book last time and this time appears to be going nuts.

I'd probably just go for a maternity dress now, myself
Get a good versatile one and you could probably wear it for the rest of the summer

Firawla · 08/05/2011 14:10

I would shop maybe just a couple of weeks before, wouldnt leave it til the weekend just before incase you couldnt find anything but leave it closeish to the time to be sure the clothes will fit ok?
between 14-20 weeks i think your bump would grow quite a bit? with this pregnancy (3rd) i know it was sometime between 14-20 (cnt remember exact) that i had to give in and go and buy maternity stuff because i just couldnt fit into normal jeans ne more. i have a wedding this time @ end of june but not gonna even really think of the clothes until june has started atleast, because no idea how huge i may be by then
what about have a look round to get ideas what shops will be best to try, so get ideas from now? but wouldnt buy nething or trying them on until couple of weeks b4?

I've been doing an internet trawl so far, generally looking for things that float from under the bust cos my waist is still nipped in. My friend's lent me a stunning monsoon dress which looks great - but it's only size 10 and after the last 2 days, I'm not convinced it's going to look quite so nice in 6 weeks.

This is my first pregnancy 16 weeks, and I'm having a similar dilemma, the wedding is in 3 months so I'm not too sure how I will grow. I'm looking at maternity dresses or trapeze style (completely unfitted straight down from the shoulder) mainly online at present. I'm planning on ordering online and then fashioning some sort of super bump using cushions and belly bands at home. I know this sounds ridiculous but I'm so much more comfortable trying on stuff at home and at least it will give me some idea how it will fit when I grow.

go for a maxi dress which has the seam above bump below bust. I went to two weddings last year and was able to wear the same dress to both at about 6+months and then 36 weeks! (i was friggin huge!) i was size 12/14 for the dress

minibmw2010 · 08/05/2011 16:42

Monsoon have some beautiful Maxi dresses which if you got maybe one size bigger than you generally do could fit? Otherwise, Mamas & Papas have a few pretty dresses in which would then keep you going all the way through summer?

Monsoon

Mamas and Papas

Boden

I've got a beautiful red satin maternity dress you could buy but it's a size 10/12 - not sure if this will suit? Can measure and take photo if you're interested.

www.seraphine.com/ have some gorgeous dresses and 20% off at the moment.

jenga079 · 08/05/2011 22:32

I'm having the same dilemma. Bought a maxi dress but don't think it's posh enough. Got an Isabella Oliver dress off eBay and was surprised to discover it's really not very flattering. Glad I didn't buy it for full price! I'm going to leave it until 2 weeks before the wedding then look for an empire line maxi I think.

Astronaut79 · 10/05/2011 19:34

Thanks for the offer gallic girl, but it's the size 10 thing that's causing the problems! Added to which , my boobs have suddenyl remembered that they grew rather a lot last time and are now bursting out of everything! I now look like Jordan - but after she's eaten a big curry!

Wait until a fortnight before as Firawla suggests. That is safest.

Two weeks before! I'm pg with #3 and like you was still quite "neat" in first pg for all those summer weddings. Nobody got married (all having babies!) during my second pg but I got big suddenly at various points. This time I started to "go" as the pee dried on the stick and had to do two wedding looking five months pg before I even got to 10 weeks.

My advice: leave shopping for as long as you can and even then get something stretchy (in a nice way!) or loose so that you're comfy. The good thing is you'll prob look lovely and properly pg with a gorgeous bump by then! (Not the sort of half bump I had for 1st pg)

gallicgirl · 11/05/2011 12:20

I got it from yummymummy in case you want a proper maternity dress.

I did wear a maxi dress until 20 weeks maybe. If you can get a soft jersey one, you'll probably look great and be really comfortable.

PrincessScrumpy · 11/05/2011 13:12

I hated all the maternity dresses for this season and have 2 weddings - one in 2 weeks so I'll be 22w pg (with twins!) and the other is at 24w. I actually found a lovely dress in Monsoon (non maternity) and in my usual size 12 - it has a lot of material in the skirt! I actually tried 6 dresses and all would have been fine. I got it 3 weeks before the first wedding but allowed for space for growth.

For my brother's wedding (I was 22w pg with dd1) I wore a baby doll dress that was fine except I tried it on 3 days before the wedding and was devastated as I forgot my boobs would grow and they were on full display. I ended up with a satin top underneath which worked well.
