Hello, I just wanted to share what happened to me today, BTW I'm actually 38 weeks pregnant today (woop woop)... and am not really moaning - just want to share!

Since i was 6/40 been told by my consultant i'd HAVE to have a section due to combinations of 2 medical conditions I have, my BMI (naughty me its 36!!!) and what happened in pregnanacy no 1. Thats OK! fine... I know why and was completely happy with this.

At 35+5 went to see consultant to book said section and was told actually as I'd (been a good girl) bought my BMI down to 34 (with an estimated 7lb + baby) and not had Gestational diabetes this time round, she was going down a VBAC route. Confused

As u can imagine, it put me in quite a spin - felt completely unprepared and frankly quite scared.... so spent 2 weeks getting myself in the right mind frame 4 a "normal" delivery - something I begged 4 last time and was told NO NO NO and have been told NO NO NO all along thru this pregnancy too! So, extra virgin olive oil, perineal massage, TENS machine, birthing ball all in my possession, urgent NCT class booked - spent 2 hours with a poor midwife going thru breathing, etc yesterday in antenatal clinic and am quite happy-ish on what is to come... and then!

At 4pm today (yes SATURDAY) i had a phone call from the hospital - my obstetrician sent an anaesthetic referral (just in case) through for a spinal block/ epidural 4 me and the anaesthetists had read my notes... and guess what!!!! I cannot have a VBAC at all - I have to have a c-section AND due to the risk factors - I may have to have it at a specialist unit and not the local hospital at all! Angry

So I am today 38 weeks pregnant and have had not only my mode of delivery changed and changed back again, but now have to go to a different hospital (I have never been to before) which is miles away from home and where i have no relationship with ANY of the staff!

The best of it is I'm 38 weeks gone and have been under obs care since i was 5 weeks pregnant and it would seem that noone has bothered to read my notes properly (despite my hand held records recording every time my history and complications!!!) and now at 38 weeks they've realised oh sh!t, this could be a problem... any one else wonder?!?!?!

I am utterly speechless... and not sure where to go next! Shock

Sorry to hear you have been given the run around. FWIW I think you deserve a sit down meeting with cons anaesth & cons obs to explain why the change of tune & if you're not in agreement get 2nd opinions.

Do hope you have a lovely & safe birth experience either way :)

I agree with Thorny. What kind of delivery do YOU want and would be most comfortable with? Make sure you get your choice after listening to all the recommendations and dont get forced into something you dont want.
